5.0 out of 5 stars More than you want to know
This book is very well written and detailed and will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about any aspect of human sexuality. I have to read it for a college class- no options- but my teenagers are also peeking at it because it is factual and informative. Overall a good quality book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great introductory text, but steers clear of today's major issues, July 27, 2010
I used this book as part of my recent Human Sexuality course and have mixed feelings about it. "Exploring the Dimensions of Human Sexuality" is broken down into digestible chunks of information that make sense logically. The authors illustrate the topics of discussion with a variety of graphics, photographs, and diagrams that make the information easy to comprehend. The book also highlights a variety of excellent research and sources for further information.

While the book contains volumes of information on human sexuality and goes into depth on a variety of topics, it tends to be redundant and elementary. Several of the chapters covered information with the assumption that the reader has skipped previous chapters leaving paragraph after paragraph of repeat information to be skimmed through. In addition, the information covered tends to avoid the controversial topics or to downplay important societal issues. I felt that the book could have gone more in depth with some of the more visible arguments pervasive in today's culture (abortion and gay rights being two such issues). I also had problems finding information in the book when referencing back to a particular topic; the index and glossary both require additional efforts.

Overall the book presents a comprehensive attempt at sexual education for the widest sector of society, but that may be where it misses the mark. Given the controversy surrounding sexuality, it's probably the safe bet, but the reader should be prepared to supplement the text with information from other books that more adequately address key issues. The information on birth control methods and the reproduction system is well written and serves as the redeeming portion of the text. I would recommend this book to readers looking for a text to discuss the basics of human sexuality, however it falls short on any worthwhile discussion of more complex issues.
