4.0 out of 5 stars Intended Audience: College Students
This is a textbook intended for non-technical college students. It is very well produced with excellent layout, clear graphics, and tightly-edited writing. There is broad coverage of the major OneNote features, with numerous examples and exercises. The coverage tends to be introductory, with detailed, step-by-step, hands-on guides. The examples are diverse, and provide...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
This book is what seems to be a possible supplement to a text book used in a classroom setting. The information is directed at students involving case studies and assignments relating to those studies. I purchased a computer with OneNote 2007 already installed. All I want to do is learn aspects of OneNOte for my own personal use. There is not much written on the subject...

The examples are diverse, and provide interesting inspiration for possible OneNote applications.

I'm writing this review, the first, so that other buyers can understand the focus of this book, before they buy it. I am not a teacher, so can't review the many pedagogic features of the text (which have the potential to get in the way if you aren't a teacher or student). I am an engineer with lots of computer experience, and was looking for a concise, in-depth, technical reference to OneNote. This book does not fill that purpose. A savvy Office 2007 user would learn little that can't be found already (and faster) in the many help resources that are part of Office. However, as a textbook for its intended audience, it appears to be very good.

All I want to do is learn aspects of OneNOte for my own personal use. There is not much written on the subject. I am not returning the book because I am sure it will be helpful to me, however, had I known the book only has 68 pages, I would have never purchased it at the hefty price of $22.79+S&H.

1.0 out of 5 stars exploring onenote, February 4, 2009

This review is from: Exploring Getting Started with OneNote (Paperback)
I was disappointed -- was looking for help on making templates in Word and using them in Onenote -- NOT helpful. Also disappointed that this was book 1 (didn't see book 2 or 3 for sale) -- didn't know that until after it was purchased.

This book is not what I expected, and seemed to be an educational supplement for a course on One Note. There are only 83 pages, and did not meet my needs. Would not recommend it.

Bar none this is the worst Office guide book I have ever purchased. $25 for this pamphlet? Seriously, about the size of a thin magazine and totally worthless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Basic Guide, January 18, 2009

This paperback is a VERY basic guide to One Note. It is well written and easy to understand but it is not for the current user who wishes to improve their skill with this wonderful aplication. It will certainly help a user who is just getting started with it.

I highly recommend this writing if you are impatient and just need a little bit of tutoring on getting up to speed quickly. It can be used as a primer or a handy reference book.

As other reviewers have noted, this item was written for an audience of college students specifically. I don't see that as negative because it is basically an introduction to the functionality of OneNote. However, it does have a serious negative from my perspective. When I ordered this item, I failed to look at the page count. I just assumed at an average cost of $20 I was buying a BOOK. This is NOT a book. It is a brief guide. While it numbers at 92 pages, truly instructional content only makes up about 80 pages and even that is being kind because it is filled with very large but nicely done screenshots. With that said, I would point out that with the exception of the case studies and exercises provided for students, the actual instructional content provides nothing beyond what you can find in the online help within OneNote.

While I think the authors did a decent job creating this guide, it was not the book I was hoping for. If you are looking for a real book on OneNote, then skip this. It is worth about $5 tops. They should make it available as an ebook considering how small it is.
