4.0 out of 5 stars Basic Work on Theosophy, June 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Exploring the Great Beyond (Quest Book) (Paperback)
This book is an easy read, and not a bad primer to Theosophical thought. The work, while dates and heavily centered on the writings of Blavatsky, does a good job of distilling HBP's sometime very obscure and confusing writings in modern language that almost anyone can understand. The focus of the book is on the after death experience, spiritualism, ESP, and connections with the "next world". This certainly isn't a "must own" for the theosophist, but it is well done and easily understood.

4.0 out of 5 stars Explaining Some Teachings of Theosophy, October 2, 2009
This review is from: Exploring the Great Beyond (Quest Book) (Paperback)
The author explains what the elementals and elementaries are and how they play a part in seances and other paranormal phenomena. This is a different angle to explain some of Theosophical teachings. Because Farthing is a more recent writer he uses plain English and I find the book easy to read and comprehend.

One can find Farthing trying to correct the views of other Theosophists in the topics of Astral Body and Astral Plane. But while he quotes from the works of HPB and the Mahatma Letters to support his view, unlike Leadbeater, Annie Besant and Geoffrey Hodson I don't think he has been recognised as a clairvoyant. Students of Theosophy should therefore continue to study the topics mentioned and not jump to conclusion quickly.

Overall I enjoyed reading the book!
