This review is from: Exploring Jazz Guitar: An Introduction to Jazz Harmony, Technique and Improvisation (Paperback)
i picked this book up and have been very surprised at the material presented, and its approach. the book for me is ideal in that it presents new soloing concepts along with a presented song to practice over, chapter by chapter. the concepts are advanced, mixing aolean and dorian lines over minors, and building on this using harmonic(similiar to aolean) and melodic minor (similiar to dorian) lines over static minor changes, and what one plays over static dominant vamps. this is only the first 3 examples. this book is complete for me it presents a consise method when approaching the daunting task of what to play and when, during improv. it covers static vamps first, then works its way into the old 2-5-1, jazz blues progressions, and includes timing issues. also the book has suggestions for additional study including ear training which is i found excellant. all and all a very practical book which gets the student up and jamming immediately. it also has an index!
