My students have been searching for a leadership book that they don't have to translate to their experiences. At last, here is a book that integrates cutting edge ideas of leadership with examples and stories from college students.

Kathleen E. Allen, vice president for student development, College of Saint Benedict

Exploring Leadership fills a gap in the literature of leadership, providing a carefully-crafted student guide structured to the needs of leadership training courses for students. It helps students assess their own potential for leadership, gives them a concise grounding in major leadership concepts and theories, and takes them through a contemporary leadership approach that equips them for the challenges of providing leadership in groups, communities, and organizations.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book exposes readers to key concepts of leadership and provides activities that will encourage one to learn about leadership.... Excellent not only for student leaders and participants but for those serving as advisors to student organizations or other student services roles." (NASAP Journal

"Exploring Leadership is appropriate as a text for either graduate level or upper-class undergraduates. It is also worthwhile reading for advisors working to develop constructive dynamics within their organizations. Unlike most books on leadership, this one is designed specifically for college students in the university organizational setting making it an especially attractive tool for instructors." (Journal of College Student Development

"The Strength of the book lies in its thorough grounding in the leadership literature." (Community College Journal, May 2002)

Review

"What sets this book apart is its firm grounding in ethics and its practical application for young adults interested in making a difference. The focused questions at the And of each chapter are outstanding for thoughtful discussion and reflection." —Alice Faron, program director, LeaderShape, Inc.

"As a long-time teacher of leadership courses, I know that my students will resonate with Exploring Leadership. The book presents a well-developed analysis of both the 'how' and the 'why' of leadership as a relational process, and also challenges student readers to think about how they might practice leadership throughout their lives." —Sara A. Boatman, vice president of student affairs, Nebraska Wesleyan University)

"We've been waiting for Exploring Leadership for a long time. This is a book that can be used with a broad spectrum of students involved in positional as well as relational leadership. Exploring Leadership has finally filled the gap that has been evident for years?a book that stimulates students to look seriously at themselves and at the complexities and opportunities of leadership." —Dennis C. Roberts, assistant vice president for student affairs, Miami University

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on Student Leadership on The Market Today, December 26, 2010

(REAL NAME)
This book is, quite simply, the best book written on student leadership available on the market today -- bar none. Komives connects with today's students in a way that empowers them to make a difference! A must have for every student leader on a college campus and those who seek to learn about, challenge, and support them.

2.0 out of 5 stars Life Exists Outside the College Classroom, December 3, 2010

This review is from: Exploring Leadership: For College Students Who Want to Make a Difference (Jossey Bass Higher and Adult Education Series) (Paperback)
I purchased this book for a college course in leadership. The class was great, but the book was horrible. There were no real examples of real life leadership. The book was written for teenagers fresh out of high school. A large number of today's college students, especially those in business courses, are not fresh out of high school. More and more adults are going back to college to further their education and find it degrading and unhelpful to read a book that is so far beneath their level of understanding.

The edition that was in this picture was not the edition I received. This made an impact because I needed the edition that was in the picture.
