5.0 out of 5 stars Really Helpful
This book teaches you important aspects about storyboarding for movies/cartoons/etc. It covers everything you can think of and gives good examples and explanations. This is good for anyone thinking about directing or storyboarding.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was looking for
I was looking for a specific "how to" storyboard book. I wanted to know the formatting rules and tips but this book is more about story telling and theory than practical application. I was looking for a book that I could quickly reference if I needed to know how to accurately storyboard something and this is just not that book.

2.0 out of 5 stars I am disappointed by the amateur drawings, May 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Exploring Storyboarding (Design Exploration Series) (Paperback)
It is a okay book for people really want to take a look at storyboarding, especially those concepts. You will have a clear idea about storyboarding after reading this book.
However, I am disappointed when I first open it and I never looked at it before I gave it away.
The drawings are too amateur to me. It's hard to find a good illustration by someone with 3 years serious practising in this book. I am not willing to learn by looking at those kid's drawings.

3.0 out of 5 stars Essentially a textbook, October 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Exploring Storyboarding (Design Exploration Series) (Paperback)
This book tells you a lot of interesting and important things about storyboarding, but it's really a commercial textbook. It even has exercise sections and notes from the author on how teachers can use this book for lesson plans. However, like I've said, it can be useful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Storytelling/composition/shot definition, February 27, 2007
This review is from: Exploring Storyboarding (Design Exploration Series) (Paperback)
I teach a digital video class and use parts of the book to talk about principles of composition and defining different types of shots. IT is pretty general but uses lots of visual examples to explain concepts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Learning Tool, February 2, 2007
This review is from: Exploring Storyboarding (Design Exploration Series) (Paperback)
The book is written in textbook style with questions at the end of each chapter. I found it a fun read. There are a few good short interview pages from professionals working in the field. The author offers great references to other books for drawing and anatomy, as this book deals more with the how and why storyboards are used and like the title says Exploring Storyboarding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on topic, May 1, 2009

This review is from: Exploring Storyboarding (Design Exploration Series) (Paperback)
I picked this book up in NYU's bookstore, where it seems to be a required textbook for students. Being an independent animator, I found this book to be the best storyboarding book on the market.

The author efficiently lays out what you need to know to create compelling, industry-quality visuals for your media piece. She covers the perspective basics, sb terminology and practices, and other related industry standards like directing, lighting and photography principles - to interrelate all topics together into what one needs to know for a good storyboard.

My storyboards from this point forward are going to be much better and I'm going to go back and re-work some of my existing storyboards using the principles learned in this book.

This book is a job well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative, February 6, 2011

This review is from: Exploring Storyboarding (Design Exploration Series) (Paperback)
This book is really informative. It is a little bit "serious" but that is ok because you are really taught how to storyboard and what works. I like that there are exercises and questions at the end of each chapter. I wish my storyboard class would follow this example.

Good introduction to storyboarding with a definite direction towards media, and many specific examples. This is NOT a book on cartooning.
