Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 2-6--Funny Bones explains skeletons in simple terms with the help of cartoon drawings, but has nothing that myriad books don't already offer. Splash! is much more successful and unique in that it allows firsthand observation and gives a series of simple experiments that even second graders could perform with minimal help from an adult. Students using the personal observation method to learn about water as it affects and is affected by the environment will gain an understanding of basic principles such as evaporation, absorption, and floating. The cartoons are less problematic here since they are intended not to offer explanation but only to amuse. This series bears watching for more of the project-related titles. --Dorcas Hand, Annunciation Orthodox School, Houston
