5.0 out of 5 stars Finally!
I, like many fans, have been anxiously awaiting new material from the gods of synth-pop since 1986's "Electric Cafe". After numerous rumors, etc, a single is finally out and it does not disappoint! Rather than sounding like the time off has led them off to experiment with newer, more "hip" sounds, they have stuck to doing what they do best, and...

3.0 out of 5 stars An OBSCURE-DISK Commentary.
Having written the book on Electro with their 1977 breakthrough "Trans Europe Express," one hardly expects a new transformation from these German stalwarts so late in the game. And, indeed, "Expo 2000" doesn't blaze out of the box to reinvent the wheel, but why should it? The first thirty seconds are, in fact, quite spectacular; a clangorous spiral...

I, like many fans, have been anxiously awaiting new material from the gods of synth-pop since 1986's "Electric Cafe". After numerous rumors, etc, a single is finally out and it does not disappoint! Rather than sounding like the time off has led them off to experiment with newer, more "hip" sounds, they have stuck to doing what they do best, and noone does it better! This sounds exactly as you would hope and like they never skipped a beat. I highly, highly recommend this single if you are a Kraftwerk fan and even if you're not. I guess the only thing left to ask is when's the album goin gto be out? :)

Having written the book on Electro with their 1977 breakthrough "Trans Europe Express," one hardly expects a new transformation from these German stalwarts so late in the game. And, indeed, "Expo 2000" doesn't blaze out of the box to reinvent the wheel, but why should it? The first thirty seconds are, in fact, quite spectacular; a clangorous spiral of slow-phased samples set over a gentle pulse of ambient noise. Yet the standard Kraftwerk elements soon predominate: that robot Vocoder; sparse, ticking drum pulses; a wafting, melodic string lead. Even if the end result is rather too easy to gloss over, one has to admire their persistence amidst a sea of smirking breakbeat jockeys. It is surely nice to have them around.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kraftwerk Resurfaces, April 28, 2000
This review is from: Expo 2000 (Hologram Cover) (Audio CD)
Well, finally at least some of the rumored activity must have been true! I have to admit I was going to buy whatever they released regardless of the wait. I'm not bowled over, but not exactly disappointed.

This German release contains four versions of one theme. Track one and two are the same version with Track one shortened for radio (I presume). After you get past the "Expo 2000" lyrical drill, the tune is decent although a little too laid back rythmically. Track four is a close variation on the first two with less emphasis on the beat and more on the atmosphere.

The real gem (at least for me) is track three... an extra theme is added, the tune finds a good solid groove and stays there.

Worth having for any fan of Man-Machine through Electric Cafe. (Total time for the four tracks: 22:55)

Much awaited. Lots of complaints. But those types of people just like to whine. Pretty good song after being around as long as they have, sounds like a take off of the Computer World theme & sound. It could have been better & it could have been worse. Good direction. They've already done alot of inventing now they reinvent. Good stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Recharging our Batteries, August 22, 2001

It seems like many including rock critics may have misunderstood the purpose, It appears originally this wasn't even intended to be a single obviously it would be impossible to even meet long-time fans expectations however this single was made exclusively for the fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars At long last, May 12, 2000

Fabulous stuff and long overdue. Pulsing and mechanical as only Kraftwerk know how. They're often copied and sampled but never bettered in my view. Come on Mein Herr's lets have a new Album to savour.

3.0 out of 5 stars KW Expo Experiment, April 11, 2000

KW testing the water with an 23 minute CD, great vocoder with a DXish sounds of EC. Hypontic riff, echos, need more creative input on percussion.

I'm a huge Kraftwerk fan, but this was a bit disappointing after such a long silence. I hope that the rumors of a new album are true.

5.0 out of 5 stars One word: w00t., May 13, 2004

First of all, the lenticular screen cover of this CD is extremely cool. I would definitely recommend this version of the single over the others just because of the cover, and the fact that there are only 5,000 copies of this version with the lenticular screen published.

The first track, the Radio Mix, is the original mix. It's very good, and, as DJ Krass says, it does not dissapoint. It isn't a different, more modern style as a lot of bands have done - Kraftwerk maintains their style.

The second track, the Kling Klang Mix 2000 just seems sort of like an extended version of the Radio Mix. It does have some good changes in it, though.

The third track, the KK Mix 2002 is awesome. It does seem a little more modern, but it is nonetheless an outstanding remix. It sounds different from the other mixes, and is very good It's my favorite Expo remix.

The last track, KK Mix 2001, is nothing too special compared to the 2000 mix. It has some more changes in it. It seems like a calmer mix of Expo.

I highly reccomend this single. Even though you could buy the Expo Remix CD, this has the coolest CD cover I have ever seen, and is definately good enough in itself.
