Ideas to Simplify Your Life and Embrace Your Space with Expo

Chore Board

Using a whiteboard and Expo markers to make a family chore board is the simple solution to getting everyone (spouses included!) to pitch in without pitching a fit. You can let go of round-the-clock reminders, as "I forgot" is no longer a valid excuse.

Head of the Class

Give kids a whiteboard and Expo Washable markers to allow them to keep learning long after the school day is over. Take a fifteen-minute recess out of your day to be a student in their pretend classroom as they "teach" you their latest lesson. They'll get some fun study time and you'll always get a gold star for attendance.

The List Goes On

Multiple mouths to feed mean you're constantly catering to the likes and dislikes of others. Keep up with their varying tastes by putting an Expo board on the fridge so everyone can request their favorite fare. They'll remain satisfied and you'll be happy to never hear "There's nothing for me to eat" ever again.

Root for the Home Team

Grab some Expo markers in the team colors and go wild on the car windows. It's a fun family activity to show your support and comes off when the game is over. Which is especially nice if someone wasn't quite as victorious as they'd hoped.

Life Labeled

Use Expo markers to label your plastic containers. If they're clear, taping a small piece of paper on the opposite side will keep your label legible. And you can change your mind with a flick of the wrist.

Entertaining Possibilities

Use Expo markers on glass trays to write out the names of specialty hors'devours or wine and cheese pairings. You can also write on small decorative tiles for reusable place settings or buffet labels. Your guests will be thrilled when the only thing they have to ask is "More wine please?"

Everyone knows the secret to good teaching is the intoxicating odor of Expo Original Chisel Tip Dry Erase Markers. I have no room in my life for that hippy, "LOW ODOR" nonsense. I need to feel the glory of fifty thousand unicorns coursing through my veins every time I uncap my marker, these get the job done. If you too, feel similarly about the pungent funk of what you use for your in-class cave paintings, read on. If you're shocked by your own incredulity re:my awe inspiring writing, you lack discipline.

Sit down children, Mr. Amazon Reviewer is going to uncap his huffing marker and tell you a story about how sissies ruined a functional product for the rest of us. According to the Online Compendium of Human Knowledge, Wikipedia, EXPO markers were unleashed upon humanity in 1976. There was much rejoicing. The markers mark methodically and meticulously, markedly making many more meager markers miserable and morose.

Uncap that sucker and make a juicy black line on the board, because you can, you winner, you. Did you make a mistake? Need to erase it quickly? Methyl isobutyl ketone, motherf...oops, family site, I already did an "M" sentence. It has an obscenely high vapor pressure and it's the solvent in EXPO markers; ENGLISH: the markers stink because they dry quickly, they erase easily because they dry quickly, I'm a Chemistry teacher, trust me. Note, this has -one- con, if you leave these uncapped for more than five minutes, they are done. They've dried out. You can re-cap them and leave them upside down overnight, but chances are, they're gone.

Why do I hate low odor markers with the fervor only a marker huffer could muster? For starters, it is now impossible to purchase these normal markers anywhere locally. I'm not joking.

I purchased these markers at a local store (instead of ordering them). The reviews that I read prior to purchasing them stated that these markers erased more easily than the low odor EXPO markers. I opened up my package, and took one out.
What I found was that they wrote very well (the ink line you get is solid), BUT when I went to ERASE what I had written, a very bold ghost remained (allowing me to clearly see what I had written), so I pushed harder on the eraser and tried again, and the only thing that it did was take the ghost away and leave me with smeared ink that looked like VERY distinct "ink cloud" - at that point the "ink cloud" remained no matter how much I erased the area. After having this occur once, I tested different erasers to find out if it was the eraser that was causing the problem instead of the ink. The same thing happened with all of the erasers - I was left with an "ink cloud" [I erased with the black magnetic OfficeMax eraser, the EXPO Precision Point eraser (the felt layer was clean due to recent removal of a layer), and with the EXPO XL eraser (the felt layer was clean due to it being recently purchased)].
I tested at least 4 or 5 markers, and the same exact thing happened with all of them (when I tested them I made sure the whiteboard area was clean. ALSO, I tested these markers and erasers on both an EXPO 2' x 3' magnetic whiteboard, and a homemade whiteboard using a sheet of melamine for the dry erase surface - the results were identical on both boards.)

On the health side, the odor from the ink is very noticeable [and I would assume that it could pose health hazards (an obvious symptom would be a headache) as a result of prolonged inhalation of the fumes/odors].

As a teacher with dry erase boards all around my room, I've used dry erase markers constantly for many years. I probably spend six or seven hours a day writing with them. No brand I've used can compete with Expo. They're simply the best.

Several years ago, Expo released a new "low odor" marker that seems to be eclipsing the original. Apparently, some people were offended by the strong odor given off by Expo markers. There were also rumors that people were "huffing" the marker (which does nothing by the way). The odor is still strong, and the newer markers last a fraction of what the original does. Buy the original if you can find them. They're far superior. They also erase with less mess.

I use black markers most of the time, and I try to only use original. They're simply the best dry erase marker on the market. I would suggest anyone who uses dry erase markers very much grab these markers while you can. I stocked up!!

Expo Dry Erase Markers are the only markers I use. I've tried other markers and they all ether dry up too fast or are hard to erase. Since I only use black, it was nice to get a package with only black markers in it. This is a super value, better than any of the office supply stores prices.

A four by six foot Expo white board has been on the wall of my office for years. As easy as the white board is to use, I still miss the look of the old slate chalk boards. Of course, I do not miss the messiness of the chalk dust that used to get over everything. I had no idea that there were black dry erase boards. Now, I have one! I just received an Expo black board and neon marker combo. I love it.

The black board now sits on the wall above my desk. It attaches to the wall magnetically. I can write on it with the neon markers that came with the kit. They all show up well. It looks like the black boards that restaurants use for posting the specials-of-the-day. Post-it notes stick to it, as do magnets. These cute black boards can be obtained separately from the markers. They come in 8.5 x 11 inch and 10 x 10 inch sizes.

I tested the neon markers on the new black board as well as on my large white board. The neon markers show up well on black, but only the pink color can be read easily on the white board. The neon dayglow on black looks great. The neon markers can also be purchased separately.

Since I am a scientist after all, I also tested the white board markers on the black board. I tried blue, red, green and black.
