Product Description

Wet-erase marker that won't fade or bubble under intense heat.

From the Manufacturer

Vis-A-Vis Wet-Erase Marker is ideal for use on whiteboards and erasable calendars. Use to mark laminated activity books, cards, placemats and storage totes or to track projects. Certified AP nontoxic ink is fade-resistant and bubble-resistant under intense lamp heat. Marker ink wipes off easily from nonporous surfaces with a damp cloth.

Customer Reviews

Nice color selection and they're working well.

They easily wipe off with a damp paper towel...much easier than dry/erase markers!

Bought this to use with chessex's game mat and it works great.

Just adding that these markers are perfect for use on Chessex Megamats (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015IUAAG/) if you're a Dungeon Master and want a great way to map out where your players are exploring prior to the adventure. I've even used them to make small additions or corrections during a game, and if everyone was patient enough you could draw out a dungeon real time.

The different colors are helpful if you want to designate static objects, and the points are sharp enough to get very good detail, yet with a simple turn you can draw thick/strong enough lines for the walls of rooms. The brown is dark enough and close to the black so that you can use it for dungeon walls (if the other runs out).

They work fine on Chessex battlemats for mapping D&D encounters. The extra colors are great for fire terrain, foliage, wooden wagons, etc. Recommended over the four-pack.

I bought these markers to use on my dry erase calender that is on my fridge at home. I love how they don't smear, so I can fill in the numbers of the month and then later on add things on it and my palm won't smear the marker. To erase the marker you definitely need a wet paper cloth and then it comes off easily.
The only downside I found was that they are VERY fine point tips. The write very thin and lightly so it was a bit difficult to read from a distance.
Other than that they are great!

As others have said these are very nice for use on Chessex battle mats (eg Chessex Role Playing Play Mat: MEGAMAT Double-Sided Reversible Mat for RPGs and Miniature Figure Games - 34 1/2in x 48in), and that is what I bought mine for.

Some words to the wise, though.

The yellow does not show very well against the buff colored mat, the red seems to not dry as quickly as the other colors (but is a better, brighter red than the Staedtler red), and the blue will leave a permanent stain if left on the mat for longer than a week.

[EDIT 8/26/13] That week is more like five hours (as confirmed at a convention last weekend). The purple also stained, albeit less heavily, in the same timespan. I recommend you do not use the Vis-a-Vis blue or purple colors on the Chessex Battlemat if staining bothers you.[/EDIT].

Also, I found the pen caps sometimes won't park on the ends of the pens while I write/draw with them. Not sure why this is true of some colors and not others.

That said, I use these pens in preference to the Staedtler ones recommended by Chessex. The colors seem brighter.

[EDIT] I dimwittedly left the cap off my black marker for over an hour recently and it dried up completely. Replacing the cap for a few hours brought the pen back to life, as good as new as far as I could tell. Obviously not recommended behavior, but don't toss that pen you left open before you've left it overnight to recover![/EDIT]

[EDIT 8/29/13] My black pen ran dry after 11 months of weekly use, so I needed these:Expo Vis-A-Vis Wet Erase Markers, 5 Black Markers (16665B). You will too one day.[/EDIT]

This product is great. The colors are nice and strong, the points are just the right size, and they just DO NOT SMELL. Also, since they are wet-erase, they are easy to use to do a whole sheet (or many) and not worry about accidentally erasing the whole shooting match. The marks that are made wait patiently for you to decide when to remove them, and they are easy to remove. A truly understated product. Try them and you'll see the difference from smelly dry erase markers, completely!

Don't use vis-a-vis; buy staedtler. I have some Vis-a-vis wet-erase overhead transparency markers and find that they do not stick on transparency sheets if there is even the smallest amount of oil on the surface. This means that if you touch your transparency or let your hand rest on it as you write the oil from your hand (even if you wash your hands first) will prevent the ink from sticking. I even tried wearing some cotton gloves while writing my transparencies, but the cotton had trace amounts of oil on it and the pen wouldn't work. I finally ended up using a pair of tweezers to pick up the sheets and place them on my desk, and then putting a sheet of paper between my hand and the transparency. This worked okay except that when I finished writing my transparencies I put them in a pile, and the abrasion between the transparencies caused the ink to rub off.

My staedtler pens, on the other hand, were much, much better. There was no issue of oil on the transparencies (I would have just used them instead of the vis-a-vis, except that I only had one and it was green). There was still some rubbing off of the ink when the transparencies were stacked together, but I found that if I was really careful to give them a good amount of time to dry before stacking them, it was okay.

I homeschool my four children (ages 2, 5, 8, and 10), and we all use these on pages that I have laminated...such as calendar activities or preschool activities, etc. They easily wipe off with a damp paper towel...much easier than dry/erase markers! Dry/ erase markers take a lot of scrubbing to get off laminated items, but there is no sweat involved with these "Vis-A-Vis" markers!
