Product Description

The ExpoCap Custom White Balance Aid is a convenient white balancing tool designed for use with fixed lens prosumer and entry-level digital SLR cameras. Amateur and enthusiast photographers who demand more out of their digital cameras will find using the ExpoCap produces better color at capture, straight out of the camera. Whether printing directly from the camera, e-mailing photos, or just wanting to avoid color correction software, the ExpoCap makes getting better color easy. Simply place the ExpoCap in front of the lens and capture the incident light (the light falling on the subject) through it to set the camera s custom white balance. Each ExpoCap is constructed of a durable black ring mount securing an assembly of carefully selected acrylic materials. It is designed to fit over the end of the lens during the custom white balance procedure, and may be quickly secured in place by means of squeezing two small buttons on the exterior of the filter ring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Custom White Ballance Made Easy, October 10, 2007
This review is from: ExpoCap Custom White Balance Aid, 77mm (Electronics)
I used to struggle to get colors to come true in overcst conditions or shade. Even the preset shade settings would often give less than ideal results.

When I recieved the expo cap I was excited to put it to the test. I set the balance using the disc in shade and compared to the shade setting. The results were amazing. Indoors in low light will keep your images free of that dark almost yellow cast they can so easly get.

Must remember to reset if you change angles and the light changes. This can be time consuming, but then correcting WB in software takes time as well.Might be best used for still shots, since action can change so quickly.

Firstly, this cap works as advertised.
You can get a good white balance and keep your lens protected when not in use.

BUT...

The 2 'buttons' that you press to place or remove the cap catch on things, especially when you put your camera in your bag. I often find the cap just stays in the bag when I pull the camera out without me knowing. So I have to be a little more careful now instead of just pulling my camera out to take a quick photo.

Also, I thought I could just use the cap, take a picture of the subject like the real picture, then use that photo as the white-balance source image. But NO... You need to remember that if you do this, that any subject item that is colored will affect the white balance. What you have to do is take a direct picture of all the light sources, possibly even from the subjects perspective.

I still count this as a useful tool though that will quickly get past most white-balance issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars PWB, January 22, 2008

This product is good to use while on the go and easy to carry in your camera bag. This product is not made for low because you need a 'x' amount of light to make it work.
