1.0 out of 5 stars #1 in waste of money/overpriced photo products November 3, 2011

The Ray Ring Flash is on top of my list of overpriced consumer products. The adapter is entire made out of plastic and the reflective material inside is reflective paper. Other than the price, here's the reason why I returned it.

The mount that's supposed to hold onto your speedlight is a little turn knob at the top of the adapter that applies some pressure to the top of your speedlight. You have to turn pretty tightly in order to make it hold, otherwise, the adapter will fall off quite easily. This happened to me twice and after the second time, the adapter separated from the speedlight mounting part. I was shocked to find that the two pieces of this devices were held together by glue. Really? For a $200 product, you couldn't have the two pieces snap together or something more secure?

Utter garbage. Other than that, the results of this ring flash are marginally better than the CoCo Ring adapter.

After using the Ray Flash for a month or so, I have to say I'm very pleased! It provides excellent lighting for so many different type of uses. I've found it extremely useful for Macro use. I have been shooting a lot of flowers and bees. The Ray Flash gives an excellent light for macro subjects. I've used both iTTL (Nikon speak for automated flash....eTTL for Canon and many other alphabet soups for other brands) and manual flash with the Ray Flash. While I prefer manual flash, they both work very well with the Ray Flash. So far, I've found that the Ray Flash takes about 1 stop of light away so you have to sort of compensate for that (at least if you're using it in manual flash mode). It provides a terrific light and is very easy to use.
