America, I can't tell you how excited I was to purchase the first episode of the widely talked about new show ''Being Mary Jane'', however I soon discovered moments into pressing play, that my excitement would turn to disappointment. The first episode begins with the opening lines ...''previously on being Mary Jane''! Hmmmm, I thought! After some basic research I discovered that there was a pilot episode that aired on July 2,2013 through the network BET. Imagine my further disappointment, as I can hardly watch episode one, without seeing the pilot! Fear not America, I took it upon my self to contact Amazon directly and report this issue. It seems Amazon was not aware of the pilot episode either! Amazon stated that they are escalating enquiry and will work with network provider to see if they will release pilot to Amazon. In the interim, I await anxiously and will have to hold off on my recently purchased episode until I have seen the pilot. I rated two stars, because I had to give a rating in order to submit my review. My rating is based on the fact that the pilot episode is missing, and is no reflection on the episode(because I have not watched it yet)

I hope Amazon comes through!

watched the two episodes available for viewing and wanted to "catch up" and make a vested interest in this series.. hello?? where is the pilot???.. really essential when trying to make a connection.. hint: if you want your rapidly declining numbers to increase let people get familiar with and connect with the plot and characters by making the very first episode available.. just sayin

I was lucky to have seen the pilot/movie episode but was left hanging originally by BET wondering when things would continue. Now they have and I can't get enough. I only gave it four stars because I don't come from the perspective of an educated black female. I am educated gay, white, and male so I will defer to them. But personally, I love this show. Gabrielle union is spectacular, yes her character is flawed, but I think she is three dimensional. She knows she is wrong for seeing a married man, she is extremely conflicted, but she still does it. A protagonist with flaws is compelling. And haven't I heard from all women at this level of success that a good, single, and straight man of any color is hard to find? Her extended family speaks to many other issues, young single motherhood, interracial marriage, and drug and alcohol abuse. It is refreshing to see a black gay male who is not a cliche for once, even if he is stuck in the closet. All of the characters in this drama seem real to me even if the production is a little slick. I for one like a little glamour with my reality and a little conflict in my heroine. And I'll say it again, I love Gabrielle Union. And in this despite her one weak spot she is a strong, successful, television reporter. Her large group of friends provide the support she can't find in a relationship. Conflict comes in the form of her nagging, overbearing, ill mother and her brother and his dysfunctional family. Her teenage niece can't seem to help getting pregnant, and Mary seems to be her only support system. This piece is topical and well cast, painting the picture of a complex, modern female.

This show is a must see for modern single women. It accurately depicts the struggle of single successful women in this country no matter the race or back round. My wish is that more people will see it.
