Faithful to Christ and the Bible, not to the opinions of men, December 18, 2003
This review is from: An Exposition Of Galatians: A New Perspective/reformational Reading (Paperback)
Don Garlington is a biblical scholar of the first order and his work has led him to question the traditional Protestant understanding of the Bible. Protestants who have a greater commitment to their systematic theologies than to the Bible are threatened by his conclusions. They act as if Luther, Calvin, et al were infallible and they consider anyone who disagrees with them to be disloyal to the so-called "reformation." Dr. Garlington's conclusions are no surprise to those of us who have rejected the pretentions of the 16th Century Protestant revolutionaries as erroneous and heretical innovations. I would hope that modern Protestants would be self-critical enough to question their own traditions and seek to follow the Bible and not the opinions of mere men. I challenge them to put aside their prejudices, read this book, and test what Garlington says against the Bible itself. I think they will be surprised.
