Narrated by Olivia Newton-John,
Exposure unwinds like
60 Minutes "lite"--the goods are in there somewhere, but the production isn't quite sure how to package them. It works best as a beginner's guide to environmental dangers that may be boosting breast cancer rates: radiation, toxic chemicals, and therapeutic drugs. The scientific and medical experts, nearly all women, do an excellent job making concepts understandable. The ever-quotable Dr. Susan Love, known for her breast cancer research, addresses the controversy over mammograms for women under age 50. Activists are also part of the story as several, including a model who had a mastectomy, speak out about the need for women to fight for research that will lead to breast cancer prevention. It often seems like an information-filled tract from Big Sister that's trying to incite fear in the masses. By that measure, it scarily succeeds.
