Product Description

The ExpressCard 34 enables the fastest data transfer from a CompactFlash memory card to the new Apple MacBook Pro and PC laptops with an ExpressCard slot. It works in both the 54 mm and 34 mm ExpressCard slots and can transfer your data up to 20 MB per second. Its small compact size makes it the perfect tool for photographers on the go. ExpressCard is a hardware standard replacing CardBus, both developed by the PCMCIA. The host device supports both PCI Express and USB 2.0 connectivity through the ExpressCard slot, and each card uses whichever the designer feels most appropriate to the task. The cards are hot-pluggable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost 2x faster than Firewire..., September 5, 2007

This review is from: Expresscard to CF Adapter Mac & PC (DDEXP34-CF-1) (Personal Computers)
I tested this using a Lexar Pro 4GB 300x CF Card and a MacBook Pro running 10.4.10 (1st gen, so 400Mbs Firewire Port). I loaded the CF card by shooting 100 RAW files with a Canon 5D.

Downloading 100 images with a Lexar CF Firewire Reader took 162 seconds. With this ExpressCard Adapter the same 100 images took 86 seconds -- so this product is almost 2x faster.

I was a little confused by the description, but realized that if you are only using CF cards, this is all you need. Worked great right out of the box -- no drivers, no other accessories required. A lot smaller than most other readers, too, so great for travel.

1.0 out of 5 stars Forces me to restart, May 19, 2008
This review is from: Expresscard to CF Adapter Mac & PC (DDEXP34-CF-1) (Personal Computers)
I have a MacBook Pro, and after reading many reviews bought this product. The transfer speed is great, when it works. The trouble I have is every time I insert a card into the reader, I get that grey screen that tells me to hold down the power button to restart my computer, in about 6 different languages. I restart, after loosing progress on the things this "grey screen of death" as interrupted, then I am able to read the card just fine. This is a horrible manufacture default. I'd give this product 1/2 a star if i could and if i could take a screen shot when that grey screen appears, i would but this freezes my computer.

I don't even know if what I received was a Delkin model as there is no marking on my reader at all. Bottom line: Do not buy this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Correct item, fast transfer, doesn't completely seat against side of MacBook Pro, May 16, 2007
This review is from: Expresscard to CF Adapter Mac & PC (DDEXP34-CF-1) (Personal Computers)
Amazon did ship the right item, and at a good price as well. It transfers images much faster than the native software for the Canon XTi, but I wish it would rest completely against the side of the computer. (see uploaded image) It's still better than a separate reader and a cord, but I would feel better about leaving the adapter in my 15" MacBook Pro if didn't stick out approx. 1/8th of an inch.
