Great impression of this expressive book!,
This review is from: Expressive Watercolors (Paperback)
It may not be my absolute favorite (Nita Engles book "How to make a watercolor paint itself") but it is a fantastic book! The illustrations are very fresh and loose, very expresssive indeed! The pictures are soo good I tend to forget reading the text, and that is a shame because every page is filled with good thoughts, hints, tips and tricks. There are a few very clear step-by-step demonstrations as well. This is easily among the best "how-to" art books I have seen. Get it.

Exceptional Watercolor Artist,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Expressive Watercolors (Paperback)
I bought Mike Chaplin's book, because he is an authority on J.M.W. Turner. His watercolor paintings are outstanding. I was interested in learning his expressionistic techniques. I read his book and enjoyed it immensely. I would recommend this book to any serious watercolor artist. Mike has great perspective. You can see it in his building painting of York Minster, where he shows the echoing of the Gothic architecture of the windows and the steeples showing the beauty of antiquity with curvilinear designs along with scaffolding of modern time in linear form makes a contrast between time periods and angle of shapes. His use of negative shapes to bring out subjects and his shadowing are marvelous.
