Type 2 sound level meter meets ANSI and IEC 651 Type 2 standards. Ideal for noise surveys in the workplace, installing fire alarms and speaker systems and enforcing noise ordnances. Measures from 35 to 130dB in two ranges with an accuracy of ±1.5dB. Data hold and Max hold functions. Backlit display allows use in dimly lit areas. Complete with microphone wind screen and 9V battery.

As a life long audiophile who grew up with the popular Radio Shack sound level meter, I found the Extech 407732 to be a most impressive step up in both form and function. This well designed and user friendly device makes channel level balancing even more accurate and is most helpful when measuring surround speakers. Sound level measurements are displayed in digital form and the meter is easily managed with one hand making sound level adjustments that much easier. This is a great tool that I wish I had discovered years ago.

The slightly more expensive model on Amazon - I needed this product to measure the sound level of train brakes. One of the cool features in my opinion is that it will measure the maximum dB level recorded over a period of time. One possible con would be that the device cuts off on its own after what seems like a short period of time however this might be configurable (haven't done enough research to find out).

I needed a high quality sound meter so as to verify or challenge sound findings in a project report. I was almost sure the data in the report was erroneous, however since I knew that my ears would not be considered as accurate sound instruments, I bought this meter. I found it very easy to use, and it more than verified that the information in the report was vastly inaccurate. Numerous other people have also used it and I have not heard any complaints about it. For me it was a very good investment.
