4.0 out of 5 stars Good meter, lousy company.
I like the meter, it found several hotspots in our house almost immediately. For that I consider it a priceless addition to the home to keep EMF levels under control. In addition, this meter prompted relocation of the kids beds away from a medium level EMF source (power meter on outside wall).

1.0 out of 5 stars EMF meter
i was looking for a triple-axis meter, not a single-axis meter. The product was extremely expensive for a single-axis meter, too! The meter did not work very well. I put it to an electrical machine, and it just said .01 mg almost all the time. When I put it to a hair dryer, the measurement always changed. First it was 21 mg, then it was 16 mg, and then it was 34 mg. It...

3 emails to the company for tech support remain unanswered, so don't count on any responses or support from this company. For that I am deducting 1 full star. When will these companies learn that they need to actually respond to their customer emails if they want continued business?

4.0 out of 5 stars Great meter, June 19, 2007
This review is from: Extech 480823 Electromagnetic Field and Extremely Low Frequency Meter (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a great little meter; solid and well-made. I use it for measuring EMF around the house. The reason I don't give it 5 stars is that it doesn't come with any information about how to use it - I have used an EMF meter before so I know what kind of fields to expect, the need to rotate the meter sometimes to catch the fields, and etc. But if I didn't already know this, it would be a problem. The meter also has an ELF setting and I don't know anything about that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good handheld Gauss meter, October 13, 2005

I used this gaussmeter to check the magnetic fields for installing a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Fields over 0.5 Gauss can cause problems in imaging using SEM. This meter was of very good help in the preliminary check for the fields. Some times this meter was too sensitive but it is OK (cross calibaration using a multi-thousand dollar gauss meter by a professional).

At 75$, I strongly recommend this product for testing any fields as low as 0.5 gauss.

5.0 out of 5 stars super easy, quite accurate and... fun!, May 12, 2007

I ordered this very simple but reliable meter because I was worried about possible EM radiation at work (office window across from a wireless network antenna hidden in the adjacent corner building). From the first minute I got the Extech EMF meter out of the box I was using it continuously, learning what appliances and hidden objects are giving the most radiation. I even carry it on my bus commute to "map" EM radiation levels around town. It is fascinating to find the variations and be aware where levels are very high (buried electric cables and medical/police buildings). I am learning a lot about the "invisible" environment and it is certainly a conversation starter! (The office by the way turned out to be quite low in EM radiation, to my great relief:-)

I actually bought this product for paranormal research. While nothing spectacular has happened yet in that regard, I have found that my bed was positioned very close to my electrical box (which is outside my home). That had created a high EMF reading around the head of my bed. I have since moved my bed and am actually sleeping much better these days.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful product, May 15, 2008
This review is from: Extech 480823 Electromagnetic Field and Extremely Low Frequency Meter (Tools & Home Improvement)
I found a lot of problem areas in my home. This is a useful tool to have around the house. Dont move it too fast while using it or jar it against anything or you will get a false high reading.

I purchased this item mainly to test the area where my bed was placed for EMF's. I had recently moved my bed away from a wall where the power came into my house and felt the new placement was safer. What I found was that the wall where the bed had been had small (1.4) amounts of EMF's, but that the small alarm clock, placed on the table next to my head, was cranking out 134+. I've been testing everything in the house, and it's amazing the unlikely things that pour out the EMF's and the major things that don't. Unlike another reviewer, my meter came with a small manual. If you're interested in the invisible world around you I'd recommend this meter.

The meter is a bit plain looking but does an excellent job. It is compact and works very well. Amazon beat everyones price. I paid just under $90.00. Some sites charge $149.00.

We have the power company putting in a double loop substation 10 feet from our back fence and I wanted to see what effects it will have on us. I also wanted to check my clock radio (a shocking 100 when next to cordless phone), computer, electric heaters, microwave... I now know a safe distance to keep away from them. Works by pointing at the item. Check all directions for best readings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, November 2, 2009

This is an excellent product. I purchased it to measure EMF levels around a new home that I was considering purchasing. The home was fairly close to high voltage transmission lines and I wanted to make sure that there were no elevated levels in and around the house. I actually found no unusual EMF levels around the house. Just to make sure the meter actually worked I walked right under the power lines and the EMF level spiked. I may have been a little paranoid but I wanted to have the peace of mind that my family will be safe in the house. We decided to buy the house. :)
