9 Function Mini MultiMeter + Non-Contact Voltage Detector

The Extech EX310 is a manual-ranging DMM with NCV detector and battery test function. Featuring an extra-large 2,000-count display, the EX310 enables users to quickly and conveniently check for voltage prior to attaching the multimeter's test leads to the device under test. It offers 9 total functions, including AC/DC voltage to 600 volts, AC/DC current to 10 amps, resistance, diode testing and continuity testing. Plus, the battery test function lets users quickly check the condition of 1.5-volt and 9-volt batteries.

Features Overview

Easy to use, small and compact for convenient handling, the EX310 features an impact-resistant rubber holster for an excellent grip and protection from other gear while stored in your toolbox. When placed near AC voltage such as a live wire, outlet or switch, the device signals that voltage is detected via a red LED indicator and audible beeper. This compact meter's 0.5 percent basic accuracy is comparable to higher-end meters.

Other Functions

The large 1-inch digits offer easy readability even at a glance. Powered by two AAA batteries, the device also has a low battery indicator. The EX310 measures 5.7 x 2.9 x 1.6 inches (HxWxD), and it weighs 9 ounces. It's backed by a one-year limited warranty.

Includes

Extech EX310 Manual-ranging Mini Multimeter, test leads, tilt stand, protective holster; two AAA batteries; and user manual.

I've had this meter for a bit over a year now and am very happy with it. It has a good number of features along with the temperature probe which is a nice bonus. Have used on quite a bit of items. House, Auto, Computers, even some standard batteries that got mixed up. Only reason I didn't give this meter 5-stars is because it didn't come with any alligator clips. As a couple others commented, the meter does fluctuate and skip around a bit using the normal straight contact tipped wires until you get your hand steady and have it on good contact sites. However this is due from just getting a good connection not really the meter itself. I highly suggest buying a set of alligator clips if you have this or plan to buy this multimeter. It totally solved / stopped the contact issues and I get a fast solid reading every time I use it using the alligator clips. Yes Fluke brand multimeter's are considered the best ones out there. Also the most expensive, so save 2-3x your money and be more then satisfied with this unit.

edit: I just wanted to add in, I should of gave it 5-stars originally. Was 4 stars, added a proper 5th star. Alligator clips would of been nice, but lack of didn't deserve a star reduced. Alligator clips are not always included. If your using the standard probe tips just make sure your contact spot(s) are cleaned well and maintain a steady hand. Or again use some kind of clamps or clips, you can buy them for a few dollars here. Once the probe has made good contact for second or 2 with no movement it has never failed me and given a good read out. I didn't re-edit my original post just added this as I felt it was needed.

Just got it today so can't testify to its longevity. I gave it 5 stars as I do all products that do what they are advertised to do. So far I have checked every function with the exception of capacitance. They all worked and the readouts were as expected and seem to be well within the product's specs for accuracy.

The no contact voltage detection worked at all places where there was voltage but if the meter couldn't get close enough to the conductor the buzzer and light were a bit anemic but they did react.

The temp probe isn't much of a "probe", There is just a sensor at the of the wire. It does work though and gave accurate readings in both F and C.

Hz and duty cycle registered 60Hz and 50% on household utility power.

I didn't like the fact that the batteries were already installed, hope they are fresh but will probably replace them if I need the meter for anything important.

The auto-ranging feature is great and will probably save me and many others from operator head-space disasters.

Not a complaint since the product wasn't described as having a back-lit display but sure would be nice if it did. I am somewhat mystified as to why manufacturers don't just go ahead and stick in an LED.

This has been mentioned before in other reviews but if you buy this product before you send it back or to the trash can for the "OL" problem make sure the leads are fully inserted into their respective receptacles. When fully seated the terminals will be flush with the meter case and won't go any further into the mete. There was significant resistance the first time I inserted the leads into the meter and I did get the "OL" greeting until I fully seated the leads.

good price for feature and function. I wanted a meter with wider range of DC current scale and a frequency meter (Hz)... and cheap. The quality is better than I expected.

I ordered this meter to replace a 20 year old meter I keep in my mobile kit. The product description and title make it very clear that the remote temperature probe is included with this meter, but it was not. I don't have immediate use for the temp probe, but I do need to start using the meter right away and it would be inconvenient to return it just so Amazon can replace it with the same item to see if the replacement comes with the probe. Sadly, it's simpler to just tack on a type K probe to a future parts order for a few bucks than deal with the hassle of getting Amazon to ship me the probe I paid for.

In general this seems like a decent low cost meter, built fairly well and to safety standards. It's not a high-end device, but I consider it to be in the top 2 or so in this price range for features and accuracy. It also did pretty well in the EEVblog shootout, which is one reason I selected it. I look forward to seeing how well it holds up to my abuse. So far I have no complaints about the meter itself, only that the temperature probe was not included as clearly stated by Amazon. This was not a third-party order or fulfillment order, it was sold to me by Amazon.

This unit seems well made and the rubber cover provides extra protection. Auto-ranging can be overridden if needed and there are a wealth of modes available in addition to the quick selections through the dial.

The included batteries were DoA. Most likely because they were installed at the time of manufacture. Silly really when they could save a couple cents by not installing them and the batteries would then work.
