12 Functions in One Convenient Meter
The EX470 offers multiple functions so professionals can carry one meter into the field instead of several. The autoranging EX470 measures AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, resistance, diode test, capacitance, and continuity, all with +/-0.5 percent basic accuracy. The unit has low current capability, measuring down to 0.1uA, and features input fuse protection and mis-connection warnings. A Type K thermometer is built in for surface or air temperature measurements.

For greater convenience, the unit comes with a multi-position tilt stand, a Velcro strap for hanging, and a protective holster with handy test lead holder. CAT III test leads are included.

True RMS Prevents Distortion from Electronic Devices
It can be very difficult to make accurate current and voltage readings in industrial and commercial applications when electronic devices are present. Fluorescent lights, motor drives, computer power supplies, and other electronic systems can distort the AC waveform, making it hard for averaging meters to get an accurate read. True RMS uses a more advanced formula to compensate for this kind of distortion.

I selected this meter based on the variety of measurements (including the IR thermometer, which I had used before in a lab) and the price. I find it is a very capable meter. I like the builtin stand, the backlight, the sharp probes and the large display.

The one area where it really falls short (and even led me to believe it was broken the first time I encountered a 470 in a lab) is the auto ranging. It is much, MUCH slower than a Fluke, and while it is auto ranging it displays the random outputs at the wrong ranges. That's the main thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars. One other slight weakness is the audible continuity tester. My Fluke 10 has some minimum beep time which you can hear even if you barely brush something. The Extech's beep is on for exactly as long as the probes are connected. If you brush against something you might only hear a strangled click or screech.

The "Title" of this item indicates it comes with 2 K Type thermocouple probes. In the manufacturers description it infers the probes range is to 1832 F. "The truth is it comes with 1 type K probe only usable to 482 F". The other mis-representation is that it comes with a protective Holster. The truth is it comes with an orange protective rubber over cover.
I would like to see these inaccuracies corrected on the Amazon web site but cannot see a way to contact them.
