Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Enhance the power of your C Pen 200 or 600 scanner with the C Pen infrared serial adapter from Extended Systems. With the adapter, you can transmit the data stored in your C Pen to your PC, even if it doesn't have an infrared port.

As C Pen scanner fans know, scanned text is displayed in the C Pen's LCD window, where you can edit, move, or delete the text as needed. When you are finished, the newly digitized text can be uploaded to your handheld, notebook, or a PC via an infrared port. Of course, most desktop PCs do not have IR ports, and that's where the C Pen infrared serial adapter can help. It connects easily to you PC's serial (RS-232) port and provides the necessary infrared interface.

The C Pen infrared serial adapter transmits data at 115,200 bps and has a range of about 3 feet. It's fully compatible with Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0. The package comes with the adapter and complete instructions. It's also backed by a one-year warranty.

This review is from: Extended Systems DC051013 C Pen Infrared Serial Adapter (Office Product)
If you have a laptop, you can probably transfer data to it via its onboard Ir (infrared) port. If you have a PC, and most do not have Ir ports, this Ir adapter will work, *IF* you have a serial port to spare. Most of us do not have an unused serial port, so such devices require swapping and rebooting. New to the market are USB IrDA adapters. These work well out of the box and require no swapping or rebooting. The price is a bit higher for now, but I think it's worth it for the increased ease of use.
