Editorial Reviews

Clare Fischer's 1963 vinyl release of Extension is finally available on CD and with audiophile quality sound. Digitally transferred directly from the 3 track master tapes, the sound of the big band ensemble has been magically preserved and captures Clare's brilliant world of tones, textures, colors and shadings. Packaged with the usual regard to detail and quality shown by International Phonograph, Inc., whose previous reissues include Julius Hemphill's Dogon A.D. and Bill Dixon's Intents and Purposes, this reissue is destined to be the definitive publication of this seminal recording. The performances are reproduced just as they were in the original session from the original master tapes. Limited Edition Release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Consecration June 29, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Extension was simply something new and unique; a work rich in color and measure. Clare Fischer's ability as a keyboardist and composer were never questioned, his way with an arrangement, genius. The producer's task, how to bring this work to the digital world, was nothing short of immense. One immediately recognizes the care and affection afforded the re-release, digital transfer and Bit Density Processing; it's funny to read this sentence at first. Not often would you use these terms when referring to a work from 1963; however, the result is simply spectacular.

International Phonograph and Jonathan Horwich seem to truly understand the need and responsibility to accurately and lovingly maintain every nuance recorded. The breath on the horns (you can hear the valves moving!), the sound of the space around the musicians, all in incredible clarity brought back in its intensity by Steve Marlow's steady and gracious hand. My personal favorite, Quiet Dawn; the pulse and secrecy are infectious and brooding.

A must for every Jazz and audiophile's collection; cheers to all at International Phonograph!

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely beautiful product! November 27, 2012

Not only is the music excellent the packageing is one of the nicest I have ever seen.
Premium sound quality for a Pacific Jazz reissue. I sure hope this label puts out more
reissues from Pacific Jazz.. I emailed the label and requested for them to try to reissue
the early Gerald Wilson Pacific jazz recordings like Moment of Truth and You Better
Believe It. Thank you, a truly special treatment.
