Product Description

The E-style external retaining ring has a tapered section, assembles radially, is made of phosphate and oil finished 1060-1090 carbon steel, meets Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) 6799 specifications, and is made in USA. The ring's E-style shape has three points of contact with the shaft for retention when installed. The tapered section style provides the ring with flexibility to facilitate installation and typically withstands higher thrust loads than constant section and spiral rings. The ring installs by sliding it onto a shaft from the side, also called radial assembly. Often used when the shaft end is not reachable, radial assembly rings enable quicker installation than axially installed rings but may require deeper grooves. The 1060-1090 carbon steel is often used in applications where strength is the primary consideration, and the phosphate and oil finish, also known as P&O, provides mild resistance to corrosion such as rust.

Retaining rings attach to a shaft (external) or install in a bore (internal), creating a shoulder to maintain component positioning within an assembly. While most rings install into a machined groove either on the inside or outside diameter of a shaft, self-locking rings attach to a shaft by using friction from means such as teeth and notches to maintain placement. Retaining rings should fit tightly enough into the groove or onto the shaft so they won't experience any movement.

Interesting that I am allowed to make this review at all! When things cost pennies, often the priority is dropped. Such is the case here. I use these clips to finish the restoration of Ferrari and Maserati combination switches that take me over 14 hours each to restore, and sell in the thousands of dollars. Yet, just like the bolt that holds the Coca Cola bottling line together, the bolt is not costly, until it stops all production!
The first order was sent on time, yet I received 2.5mm rather than 4mm E-Clips. I wrote and discussed the problem with Amazon. The second set arrived incorrect as well. A longer description to Amazon from me followed. The Third set--same thing. Then, the supplier had no more. I asked Amazon service to put these on my Wish List, or otherwise back order them to no avail. So, maybe if I told them that these clips hold the keys into the lock cylinder of the recent defective Chrysler Ignition switch, I would get more action on this part? Maybe not. better not go there
