GREAT DISCOGRAPHY CD !!!!, May 20, 2008
This review is from: Extinction the Second Coming (Audio CD)
Containing their 1990 ¨Extinction¨ Lp + their highly experimental 1991 ¨Cybergod¨ Ep + their 1992 ¨Lie Cycle Ep, clocking in at 66'. I find this release much better than the currently available ¨Anthology¨ cd in that that one has almost all of these tracks but some of them have been deleted in favour of an endless string of terribly-sounding early demos which are essential only for the most ardent fans/completists.
Nausea were formed in the dawn of the 80's and included Agnostic Front's Roger Miret wife Amy, paradoxically totally into crust and anarcho-pacifism. Every member of the band sported long dreadlocks and could really play their instruments, so the end result was a grinding midtempo mixture of Black Sabbatth,Amebix, some Slayer and Plasmatics -especially noticeable in Amy's WOWilliams-on-helium vocals, with a fat, doomy rhythm section pounding and plodding along mercilessly and a metally aura to the whole thing. Lyrics of course dealt with the usual anarcho-pacifist subject matters which I personally always find a bonus.
The sound and mix are somwhat raw and the whole record sounds underproduced, but in a way that only adds charm to it. You'll have to crank up the treble to hear the guitar and cymbals and there's an omnipresent imbalance to the right channel but it can be easily and satisfactorily compensate for. Get this one if you can find it at a reasonable price or get the Anthology 2CD set instead.
On a final note I'd like to recommend you get their long-ago out-of-print official ¨Alive In Holland 1991¨ VHS release, which is widely available in dvd-r format on e-bay. You'll thank me.

dude, it's nausea, September 6, 2003
This review is from: Extinction the Second Coming (Audio CD)
nausea is probably one of the best crust bands to ever emerge. extinction reigns as one of the greatest, if not the greatest lp's to be released. it doesn't get any better than this.
