Extra Class book + software package for the FCC License Exam

These books, along with the accompanying software, are a great way to train yourself to take the Amateur Radio License tests. Personally, I used the book as a reference for the software, and used the software to train on each element of the upcoming test. If you find you are having trouble with a single element, the software allows you to focus on one element at a time. If you make a wrong choice, it tells you what the correct answer is... and most importantly, WHY it is correct - with a reference to a page in the book!
I would recomment this to anyone looking to take the EXTRA Exam, and the other books & software for the Technician and General courses as well!

Purchased Gordon West's Extra Class book with W5YI practice exam software from Amazon ............(gotta luv free shipping!!!)...
Gordon does an excellent job of "formatting", book has a logical topic specific layout, so all questions, answers, examples of a "kind" are grouped together. His explanations with added insights are well done, adding to an "easy read".

The W5YI software (not Gordon West) lacks some features to make it stellar & has a few 'glitches", although it still helps greatly in studying for the Amateur Extra "ticket" ....

I have seen the ARRL book and Gordon's approach shines by comparison..... IMHO..my 2cents, your mileage may vary, your opinion not withstanding, etc, etc..... :-()

OH yeah, passed with "flying colors"....After attempting to study on my own previously and not doing so well..... So, read the book, mark the correct answer for easy review, highlight some salient "points", go thru practice exam software repeatedly, shortcomings not withstanding, (good feature...it prompts you with correct answer & explanation it you "oops" during practice sessions) and pass exam.......

Don't waste you time on any other study course material ! Absolutely the best method to study and pass the test. The information needed is presented in enough detail to pass the test. And he presents several memory "gimmicks" that stick the hard one in your mind. If you are going to buy any study material, make sure this is #1 on your list !

Passed the Extra with no sweat first try, first to turn in the paper out of the group testing, did not go back to any question twice.

I can not say enough about this course.

The book is easy to follow and has helped me get up to speed on the details I have forgotten as well as the operating modes I've never tried. I really like the sample test program included with the package. The book and program together make it easy and fun to study. I recommend!
