Giving this item two stars because both the picture and the title are misleading. The ball pictured is not the same as what you get. The mesh in the ball I received is much larger than what is pictured, and loose leaf tea sifts right out of it. Also the phrase "tea infuser" in the product listing does not jive with the retail packaging on the box, which describes the ball as a spice ball and shows a picture of some rather large spices (like dried red thai peppers) rather than tea or anything smaller. I imagine this ball would have any number of uses as a cooking implement, and it seems to be sturdily constructed (hence the 2 stars instead of 1), but do not buy this if you intend to use it to brew tea because it is not designed for that and should not be marketed as such.

I bought 2 of these as I am an avid homebrewer of beer and planned to use them for dry hopping beer inside kegs.

Pros
+ Packaging was adequate and nothing was smashed or bent on deliver
+ seems fairly priced vs. alternatives
+ The screw locking mechanism seems to hold tight. I was worried about this prior to arrival, since not having a traditional locking clasp, maybe they could pop open ruining my sweet nectar and forcing me to painfully filter the entire batch into another keg.
+ size. this is about perfect for dry hopping 0.75oz of pellets. The pellets expand quite a bit so you need the extra room to allow the hops to infuse the aroma better. I have used a different brand w/ clasp locking style that was smaller and it really didn't allow the beer to mix well with the hops so I needed a larger version. This works great in that respect.

Cons:
- I bought 2 of these and one seems to lock much tighter than the other, but I think I can use a hammer and punch to make the divots slightly larger and thus locking tighter.

Overall, I am happy with the purchase and rate it about 4.5stars and would recommend to another homebrewer.

I bought this hoping that it would be great to use for brewing a gallon of tea at a time. However, the mesh is not fine enough and quite a bit of Lipton Black Tea, Loose, 1/2 pound Boxes (Pack of 6) went through the mesh. If you're wanting it for something other than smaller bits of loose leaf tea, I'm sure it'll be fine. Seems like it's made decently and is HUGE! However, it didn't do what I wanted it to do.

Good luck!

I like this product. I use it to hold herbs (e.g. rosemary, cilantro, thyme, etc.) when making sauces. It is very large, so it works best with a big stock pot. The mesh is tightly woven, so small leaves do not work their way through into the sauce. It locks togehter securely. It is easy to clean, just dip in soapy water. I rated it 4 stars because the chain is a little short for tall pots, so you may have to just place it in the sauce itself. All in all, it is a good, simple product that does what it job well.

This is a nice quality sturdy tea ball with good locks built into the rings. We make 4-5 gallons of tea at a time using loose leaf tea. This tea ball works great. Nice big hook to hang it on the side of your pot or to hang it up to dry after. We allow the tea to settle after brewing in the pot, if you are concerned about small bits of tea leaf or residue in your pot, just strain out the bottom portion over a clean cloth napkin or dishtowel!

When I ordered this, the description was: extra large, Jumbo strainers. 5 inches in diameter and 4 inches high. At the time of this writing, I see the description as 4"x4". The parts I received were 3.5 Inches in diameter and 3.5 Inches tall. I would measure the diameter and be sure you get what you paid for.

I bought this for making pregnancy tea but fell in love with steeping large amounts of tea & use it for tea now as well. I just tried it tonight to hold some extra veggies for my son in a crock-pot of soup I was making. It worked great for that too! Just make sure the opening of your jar/pot is over 4" wide.

The size is convenient to make large quantities of tea, but you end up with lots of the loose tea leaves in the brewed tea. It also is too large to fit into the more narrow opening tea pitchers. And, it is difficult to close and open even when grooves are lined up correctly - it sticks significantly. Would not recommend ordering.

I bought these for hopping my beer during home brewing 5 gallon batches. They work very well for that. They catch probably 90% of the hop solids. During the boil, the circulation of the wort means plenty of exposure to the contained hops, and removing the hop solids by removing the ball means that your green beer has a lot less junk in it. Easier than filtering into the fermenter, for sure.

I was looking for a large spice ball to use in my soups. This was perfect for a large pot of soup. Mesh is very small so none of the spices fall out.Its easy to use and wash.
