This review is from: Extracting Appalachia: Images Of Consolidation Coal Company (Paperback)
This is a well written account by Geoffrey Buckley on the history of the Consolidation Coal Company from 1910 to 1945. The book goes into great detail about the systematic manipulation and eventual takeover of prosperous coal lands by the Consolidation Coal Company from farming families through questionable ethics and shrewd tactics. The book also examines how the Consolidation Coal Company was successful in controlling the economic and social lives of miners and mining families through the act of paternalism. Highly recommended!
