The Extraordinary Adventures of Ordinary Boy is an excellent book. Its dry humor will give young adults some good laughs, while the characters and setting will captivate younger audiences. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but flawed.
Overall, I planned to give this book 4 starts, but I had to take one away because of the flaw, but more on that later.

Welcome to Superopolis, where everybody is a superhero, and they all have super powers. Well, that's everyone except for one boy who doesn't have any powers, and his name is Ordinary Boy, or O Boy for short. O Boy's favorite Superhero is...

5.0 out of 5 stars This book got my 10yr old to read a book on his own, May 12, 2007
Great book. The characters are very creative. There are pictures of the charaters too.

The storyline is about trading cards. My 10yr old son can totally relate and couldn't put the book down. Not only did he read, he understood the excitement of finding "THE" card everyone in the book was looking for.

Just a note, I could not find this book in any bookstore in my area, which really surprised me because it's a great read and it's hard to find such great & interesting stories for boys. So Kudo's to Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, Joy! A Book Boys will WANT to read!!, October 20, 2007
By
My 11-year-old read this book over a weekend. He raved about it. Yes - I said my 11-year-old SON raved about a book. It isn't easy to find books boys will like these days, especially after they've finished all their Harry Potters. I'll be getting #2 Ordinary Boy asap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Reading Over and Over, June 19, 2007
By

I stood in line for a free autographed copy of this book at the annual Book Expo last year so that I'd have something to bring home to my kids. I will gladly pay full retail for the chance to read the second installment. My 5-year old son and 7-year old daughter both loved it as a read-aloud bedtime story. The humor was delightfully age appropriate for all three of us (and I'm 50). The pictures captured just the right blend of superhero and silliness. We all tried to solve the mystery along with Ordinary Boy and his friends. It was great fun.
A year later, my daughter says she re-reads this book whenever she runs out of library books, and wants to know when the next book is coming out. Though the second book is probably at the library by now, I'm going to order one from Amazon so she can re-read it while waiting for the third volume. I hope they keep them coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything that a book for kids should be, April 7, 2009

I have been reading this book to my son he is 7 1/2 and he loves it. As an adult I find it appealing because I never know where it will go next and this makes it unpredictable and fun to read. As I read it I smile, the adventures, the humor, the well written and easy to read style makes it hard to put the book down. I find that many childrens books hit the child "over the head" (with humor, grossness, scariness, whatever, etc.) in the mistaken belief that they won't "get it" otherwise. It doesn't talk down to children and yet the humor is subtle and engaging. I found the story to be engrossing and not too scary. Overall I think this book is great, I am looking forward to purchasing the other two in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book boys will like at my age, April 10, 2010
A Kid's Review
I am nine years old and I really like Ordinary Boy Series. I really like the first book because it has action and a lot of superheroes save the town from the supervillain. Ordinary Boy's father was trying to get back in a superhero team , but can never get in one. Lastly, Ordinary Boy leads his group into fighting crime with Amazing Indestructible [AI] to defeat the villain, Professor Brain Drain. That is why I love this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful series for boys 7 and up, March 3, 2011
I've never written a review on-line for anything before, but I feel so strongly about these books that I decided to start here. I have read the first two books in this series to my 7 1/2 year old son and we both enjoyed them more than anything else we've read, with the possible exception of the first two Harry Potter books. At his age this is the perfect book for a parent to read to a child. There are many opportunities to introduce and explain new vocabulary words like "discombobulated" and the books tell a tale of an ordinary boy who succeeds and solves mysteries despite the handicap of being the only person without powers in a town filled with super heroes and super villains. He does this by using his intelligence - a good message for kids. Book two has a terrific surprise. We are just about to start the third book . Although my son is a great reader, this is a bit above his level for independent reading now, but I'm sure he'll read it again and again as he gets older.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, my son enjoys reading!, March 7, 2008
By
My 3rd grade son has never liked to read until he discovered the Captain Underpants series. When a friend (also a reading specialist) told me "The Adventures of Ordinary Boy" is a book that her son hid under the sheets with a flashlight to read after lights out, I ordered one. It is the first chapter book my son picks up to read voluntarily. I am thrilled that he is learning that reading can be fun.
