The story of Abbey enthralls you from the very first page. Your emotions run the gamut from happiness, sympathy, sadness, amazement, and horror as Abbey's story unfolds. You can't put the book down until you have read the last page. Sarah has done an outstanding job of giving the characters life and adding one of her poems to each chapter is brilliant. Great job - is there a sequel?

In the tradition of the great American Regionalists, Erskine Caldwell and William Faulkner, Sarah Elizabeth Rose draws her readers into the bizarre, relentlessly brutal world of Abbey, a girl born into seemingly hopeless circumstances.
Like all great writers, Sarah compels us to share Abbey's pain, shame, fear, and humiliation. As the character becomes more and more real, we desperately want to protect her. We continue reading, waiting for the happy ending to take us out of Abbey's nightmare. Great stories capture the readers' imaginations and transport us into a different reality; they preoccupy our thoughts for days as we go about our ordinary lives. This is one of those stories! In this book, the author gives us a glimpse into the life of an extraordinary young girl. It was a story I couldn't put down until I had finished -- and now I'm hoping for a sequel!
