Book Description

Isn’t it true that we long to see the extraordinary, experience the extraordinary, do the extraordinary? Yet, so often we settle for mediocrity when greatness is within our grasp.

Why are we drawn to stories of heroic triumph over seemingly impossible circumstances? In our fascination with adventure movies, superheroes, and tales of incredible human feats, do we reveal an inherent desire for something larger and greater in life? Maybe what we think is a need to escape or be entertained is actually a God inspired longing…for the extraordinary.

Best-selling author John Bevere reveals how all of us were “meant for more,” extraordinarily created and intended for a life that is anything but ordinary. Here is the roadmap for your journey of transformation. You are marked for a life that far surpasses the usual definitions of success or fulfillment.

Isn’t it time to pursue your extraordinary life?

Review

Praise for
Extraordinary
“In Extraordinary, John Bevere does a wonderful job of showing what God created us for and how that applies to all areas of our lives. As a professional athlete, I am constantly dealing with the balance of being extraordinary for God, as well as in my career. This book has shown me that there is no separation between our spiritual lives and our everyday lives. God has called us to live extraordinarily, every minute of every day. This book is a must read for those who are looking to live fully immersed in the greatness of Jesus!”
–Kurt Warner, NFL quarterback and two-time league MVP

“John Bevere is one of the most passionate people I know, and I believe he has truly grasped the meaning of John 10:10: ‘I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.’ In Extraordinary he digs into the Word to show what it looks like to please God and use the talents He has given us. John pushes believers to the edge to get them to launch out into the deep. He lives life to the fullest and, through these pages, will inspire you to experience the joy of serving Christ with passion.”
–James Robison, LIFE Outreach International

“This is a one-of-a-kind hero message! In his unprecedented approach, John Bevere has delivered a book that will unlock the extraordinary within you. I pray your heart is open and ready to receive Extraordinary.”
–Darlene Zschech

“John Bevere’s penetrating and practical insight into ‘what makes life work’ shines again from these pages. In a day when twittering quick-fixes are sought for life-solutions and sound-bite remarks are dubbed as wisdom, there’s a need for this kind of honesty about the requirements for substance to build a life. John shows that extraordinary living is within every person’s reach, but not on ordinary terms.”
–Dr. Jack W....

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Perfect! October 6, 2009
Format:Hardcover
I have some heroes - two of them are Rosalind Goforth and Jackie Pullinger, two women who dared to believe that life with God is supposed to be different, and staked their lives on it. Goforth talks about being so sick she had no voice, yet mounting the stairs to take the pulpit - and from the moment her feet touched the platform to the moment they left, she was 100% healed. The ministries of these women made a real difference.

I listen to my kids, and I realize that built into every person is a desire to be special - to be a hero. Thus, the success of X-Men and Heroes. When you accept Jesus into your life, God's Spirit comes to live in you - to teach and guide you.

Ever feel like this should mean more than you are living?

Extraordinary is a book that takes everything that has been floating around in my brain - two books, The Fourth Dimension by Cho, and Experiencing God by Blackaby; John 14-17; and a firm belief that we are supposed to live a victorious, yet outwardly-focused, servant-exemplified life - and puts it in a logical, linear path that explains it exactly right - without weird theology that some are prone to.

You can live victoriously. Your life can be different. Not because you try harder, but because God Is, and He lives in you.

Can you tell I like this book?

4.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary by John Bevere October 6, 2009
Format:Hardcover
There are a lot of "self-help" books out there that try to tell you that you can do anything in your power, that you are all you need to succeed. These books always miss the mark, so when I see a Christian book about how to be successful, I look forward to reading it. Extraordinary is a very good book about being successful in areas that are really important, areas that are different than the world would have you believe are important.

One of the most remarkable things I noticed about this book is all the Bible verses the author uses. I especially like the fact that he used the story about the woman who bled for twelve years and fought her way through the crowd just to touch Jesus' robe. That story inspires me more than any other and any book that discusses it, as does Extraordinary, is a good book in my opinion. This book is full of wisdom and truth. There is a lot to take away from this book that will help us be Extraordinary.

3.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary by John Bevere October 6, 2009
Format:Hardcover
I was recently sent a copy of Extraordinary by John Bevere to review. I initially thought that it would be yet another ho hum self help book, but ended up being pleasantly surprised. This book was such a joy to read! Although I did not agree with all the information presented, it was a very good book and I recommend it.

The author points out that God has a plan for all of us, not just those who are in church every Sunday, or the rich, or the famous. He has great things in store for each and every one of our lives. Bevere also talks about how we can do nothing to make God love us less, His love for all of us is unconditional. Can we do things that are not pleasing to the Lord? Well, yes we do after all have free will. But, He loves us anyway. The book also reminds us that there is no sin too big for God to deliver us from. I believe all of these are points that are good to be reminded of.

Extraordinary is filled with valid, scripture based points to ponder. He urges us to turn to the Bible to make sure any teachings, his included are Scripturely sound; I was really impressed by this. The author also shares much about his own life and struggles. The book reminds us that even though we are faced with many ups and downs in life, God wants the absolute best for us. He wants our lives to be extraordinary, and they can be!

3.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary: The Good. The Bad. The Ugly October 28, 2011
Format:Paperback
For this book John should have heeded some wise words from my first Camp Director. He said...

"At this camp we do two things. We have fun and we make disciples. If you mess up, then mess up on making disciples. Have fun. At least then the campers will come back next year and someone else can introduce them to Christ. If you try to make disciples at camp and have no fun, you won't succeed at either."

The Good:
Extraordinary focuses on making disciples. There is some great truth hidden in here. His emphasis on God's grace giving us the power to live life differently was well done. I'll steal some for future sermons myself - for sure.

The Bad:
John seems to be a bit hyper-dispensational, seeing Old Testament believers as unable to live the life God now calls us to live. He sees Jesus as raising the bar in the New Testament when He calls us to live a "perfect/holy" life. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what John was teaching, but it seems to me Jesus was not raising the bar, but clarifying where the bar was set. The Pharisees moved it, Christ re-set it.

The Ugly:
The book read to me like a collection of poorly organized sermons. With better editing, maybe 25% shorter, this could have been a fun, exciting encouragement of dying to self and allowing Christ to live through you. Instead it was dull. I kept putting it down, waiting a week, telling myself it couldn't be that bad, trying again, putting it down... There were always paragraphs to mark, good content hidden in the chapters, but getting there was work. John is a better author than this - don't let this sour you on his other books.

I received this book free from Multnomah Books for review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. DanielCooley.com
