4.0 out of 5 stars Documentary spoils a good DVD concert., October 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Extreme Behavior (W/Dvd) (Dlx) (Audio CD)
I mainly bought this CD/DVD for the DVD, since I already had the CD in digital format.

Hinder's music has grown on me. I wanted to get a concert DVD of them, because I have been enjoying Three Days Grace's DVD.

I'm pleased with the quality of the concert footage, but unfortunately you have to put up with the band's documetary in order to watch through it. Unlike Three Days Grace's band members, I find Hinder's to be self-indulgent and immature. It really spoils a good performance. I wish they would separate the band's documentary to a separate title on the DVD.

In general, I am satisfied with the value of the purchase. However the DVD could have been done better, so I deduct one star.

4.0 out of 5 stars The DVD edition scores a healthy four stars, March 5, 2009
This review is from: Extreme Behavior (W/Dvd) (Dlx) (Audio CD)
Coming across as a younger more party orientated version of Nickelback to my mind Hinder on this debut lay the foundation for a good party within the confines of the hard rock universe. With the vocals of Austin Winkler intertwined with the bands rock `n' roll heartbeat the band cruises down the highway in love with a carefree form of the genre whose light hearted and lightweight delivery truly evokes that of the late 80's pop metal bands. And that's meant as a compliment.

The band open their account with Get Stoned where the scene is set for the rest of the album in the form of lots of almost yelled vocals and slightly understated but upfront riffing. The band sound like they'd perform as good time evoking professionals on a large stage and absolutely rip on a small stage. Further cuts such as How Long reinforce the image of a bunch of young lads who got to life the dream and I can't hate them for that. The music is mostly reminiscent to me of a somewhat lighter Nickelback and they also don't have quite the same ability to pen a tune and lyrics of such universal qualities of Chad Kroegers mob. The album has both quicker numbers and slowburn tunes such as Shoulda. And of course the album was blessed with having a hit in the form of fairly traditional power ballad Lips Of An Angel.

Some may find this album a bit too studied, from the inclusion of the f word and the persona put forward in interviews. Whether that's the case, well I'm willing to withold my judgement on the strength of this album alone.

The production values are fine. Brian Howes did the honours and it was mixed by Randy Staub if possible you should try to get this extended version of the album as it contains a few bonus tracks. These is a piano version of Get Stoned and a cool cover of Born To Be Wild. The former shows what this band may be capable of if their fanbase follows them long enough to get them through to, say, a third album. The latter, well nothing touches the original Steppenwolf Born to be Wild but these young pups do a very spirited version of it. Respect.

And the DVD is really what takes this thing to a very healthy four stars, in fact I can understand the five star reviews. You see it has all the promo videos including one for Born to be Wild, interview footage and a concert. The gig isn't exactly at Wembley Stadium, Tokyo Dome or Donnington but it's certainly blessed with a very enthusiastic crowd and the fun factor is pretty infectious.

A worthy debut from a fairly middle of the road musically bunch of guys. Good for highways and byways but not overly challenging and the fact that much of their fan base seems made up of `tweenagers' is probably appropriate. Whether they learn to speak to a larger audience like Nickelback has done only the future can tell. But if you do spend your hard earned whatever you do, make sure you get this version!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD, November 19, 2008
This review is from: Extreme Behavior (W/Dvd) (Dlx) (Audio CD)
One of the best DVD bargains on the market. It is not a DVD for kids to see as it shows a lot of sexual scenes of the band in between the concert footage. What makes this DVD so good is that it shows the band doing almost all of their hits and other songs in their entirety. This band has a lot of similarities with Jim Morrison and the Doors.
