5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional!
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. This is a great purchase for the price. It is inexpensive, current, and amazingly interesting. I bought it mostly to watch with my two sons, ages 9 and 7, and they never tire of watching it. The subjects are fascinating. The set has 2 DVDs and each has four episodes. Alot of viewing for a low price.

1.0 out of 5 stars If you like engineering, this is a TERRIBLE set.
The set starts out OK, like with Boston's Big Dig. But even this episode (like all the episodes) is nearly ruined by the soundtrack (incredibly loud and distracting) and hyper-manic editing (which I'm sure causes brain cancer).

But with each successive episode the set degenerates into almost NO engineering! It's true! The screen time instead is taken over by...

A great item for an educational tool for the whole family.

It's true! The screen time instead is taken over by PEOPLE and their petty problems or nonsense. For example, in Venice Flood Gates, they have some worker sing us a song. Huh? Huh? I did not buy the set to listen to Italians sing (badly). I purchased it for, ah, ENGINEERING. By way of contrast, there is another show out there on the Venice flood gates, and the difference is astounding. The latter minutely details the engineering behind the project, and with incredible graphics. Instead, this idiotic show has singing and long, pointless scenes (like a worker driving to the job!).

The producers apparently thought that incredible engineering projects were not enough to engage the viewer. So the whole set is jazzed up like an MTV special, and soap operas replace engineering.

This set should be titled: THE TRIVIAL STORIES OF THE PEOPLE...who build big things.

The content is very good. It covers a great deal of details. Not enough of engineering. A lots of history.

Watched it on Netflix and decided I had to get it for my engineer grandfather. It is a great series that talks about the engineering feats that had to be overcome.

Even though some of my high school students get bored with parts of the content, it is a great blend of history and science and engineering and everything!!!

I am a high school teacher. I bought this movie for my physics class. I had to turn it off about ten minutes into it because of all the horrible language that was in it. Yes, it was bleeped out, but the students knew exactly what was being said. Horrible for a classroom. I thought Discover was better than that!
