Book Description

April 10, 2003
When former CIA officer Jake Adams is hired to guard two Oregon agribusiness honchos attending a conference in Odessa, Ukraine, he has no idea he will be recruited back into the Agency to find the killer of a former Soviet biochemist. Was the man still developing deadly nerve agents? As terrorists strike around the globe, using chemical and biological warfare, Jake knows the attacks are all related. Haunted by his past as an observer in Iraq, he must overcome his demons to continue the case. His investigation leads to the heart of the Kurdistan mountains, where his training is tested as he battles an extreme faction of terrorists who will stop at nothing for their cause. Only one man can stop the deadly plan. . .Jake Adams!

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Ostensibly Jake Adams is in Odessa, Russia, to guard two agribusiness honchos attending a conference. But the former CIA agent is always close to trouble, and soon the bodies start falling. First to die is an authority on biochemical weapons; then the two men Jake has been hired to protect join the corpse list. Meanwhile, Kurdish terrorists are on the move around the world using biological warfare to force their goal of obtaining a homeland. Scott, a former weapons expert and the author of Fatal Network (1999), has the high-tech jargon down pat, giving the story a ring of authenticity as he takes readers around the world for a thrill-packed adventure that skips from Russia to Mexico to Kurdistan. The only part of the story that seems forced is the romance, but fortunately, it tends to get lost in the action anyway. Technothriller fans looking for an alternative to Clancy will find Scott a somewhat smaller-scale but perhaps even more authentic alternative. 3.0 out of 5 stars a lot to like here, December 12, 2009

This review is from: Extreme Faction (Jake Adams International Thriller Series #2) (Paperback)
This story is in the vein of James Bond. You have a cadre of super secret agents fighting and plotting with and against one another over the formula of a nerve gas developed by an ex Russian scientist. The bulk of the narrative takes place in Odessa, where a conference for agriculture is taking place. The scientist is giving a speech, the main character, Jake Adams, is there guarding a couple of executives, other agents are in the woodwork.

Pretty soon the story goes off in several directions. The primary sub plot deals with a group of Kurdish terrorists who overthrow a US Base that happens to be overseeing deadly nerve gas bombs. To tell you the truth, if this whole part of the story were cut out, comprising perhaps 1/3 of the novel, nothing would have been lost. I am unsure why its here.

Towards the end, the story gets a little goofy. I did like that the agents were for the most part on the fallible side. They were making mistakes and getting hurt. Something you dont always encounter. Other than that... hmmmm worth reading if you want to spend a couple hours being entertained along the lines of a 007 movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars A six stars reading, October 24, 2006
By
This review is from: Extreme Faction (Jake Adams International Thriller Series #2) (Paperback)
When you read a book that:

Is always on the plot without rendering the landscape or buildings.

Can't be closed.

Can be true all the way.

The love story is just that.

Doesn't describe technologies nobody'll understand.

Has a paramount end.

Then the book deserves SIX stars.

Trevor Scott does it again with Extreme Faction. As up to date as today's headlines. A real roller coaster of a thriller. When does it hit the silver screen?
