About the Artist

from hem.passagen.se/hypno/

1995 saw the birth of HYPNOSIA, formed by Cab Castervall (guitars/vocals) and Mike Sjöstrand (drums). With a crystal clear aim of making a furious blend of fast and aggressive Thrash Metal and brutal Death Metal, they swore an oath to never change the style of the band's music. Inspired by acts like Slayer, Dark Angel, Kreator, Sadus, Death, Sodom and Sepultura, they set course to make music very seldom heard in this modern age of extreme metal. HYPNOSIA take off where the old legendary Thrash/Death Metal bands left the scene, changed direction too much or simply couldn't make good music anymore. With the spirit firmly rooted in the 80's up to early 90's Thrash and Death Metal scene, the band see it as their duty to take the feeling and energy of the past and carry it onwards into today's underground metal scene, to the next level of extremity.

After having released two very successful demo tapes, "Crushed Existence" in 1996 and "The Storms" in 1997, HYPNOSIA was featured in many 'zines all over the world and several labels showed interest in releasing albums and offered contracts. A Mini-album called "Violent Intensity" was released on a very small Swedish independent label in 1999, this was done mainly to spread the name further and to get recognition from a serious record label who could make a good offer.

Right after the debut album's release Hampus Klang (guitars) became a member of the band. Later the same year Dutch label Hammerheart Records showed sincere interest and offered the deal the band had waited so long for. After the deal was settled HYPNOSIA wrote the last piece of music for the second album and rehearsed hard before finally entering the local Euphony Studios. The new album "Extreme Hatred" consists of all trademarks that has always been present in HYPNOSIA's music: the high speed thrash assault, aggression and brutality mixed into a nuclear explosion of Thrash and Death Metal.

After some 2 * years of having trouble finding a permanent bass player, Lenny Blade joined the Thrash Division HYPNOSIA in November 2000. Awaiting a new chapter to be written…

This recording will rip your head off and continue to kick your cold lifeless body for hours after it stops twitching. It's sort of like a suped up dual carburated version of Kreator (when they were fast and heavy). Basically, I rather like it!!!!! So, buy it and spread the word today!!! DON'T LET THEM SEE YOU BLEED!!!! Dargillos Rivothead

4.0 out of 5 stars Death-infused thrash metal, February 20, 2010
This review is from: Extreme Hatred (Audio CD)
2001's Extreme Hatred was the debut full-length from Swedish metal band Hypnosia. I suppose they're technically a thrash metal outfit, but Hypnosia has plenty of death metal elements as well. I'd lean more towards the thrash classification because the band obviously takes a huge inspiration from Kreator and the German thrash scene. The term "bullet-belted thrash" definitely comes to mind.

Extreme Hatred is all ungodly fast riffing, machine gun drumming and harsh, almost barked vocals. It's very fast, very intense and the subject matter is quite violent and dark (as it should be). There's also a measure of precision and technical proficiency that is very much a trademark of Swedish death metal, but aggression is the album's primary characteristic. It's the kind of album that makes you want to strap on spiked gauntlets and start a pit.

If you're a fan of the more aggressive thrash metal sound (Kreator, Destruction, Dekapitator, Carnal Forge, etc.) you'll definitely want to track down a copy of Extreme Hatred, even if that isn't so easy to do these days.

Edition Notes: From what I understand, there are multiple versions of Extreme Hatred out there. One has a cover of Possessed's "My Belief" as a bonus track. The version I have comes in a digipack and includes the band's 1999 Violent Intensity EP as a bonus, bringing the total to 15 tracks. If you're going to hunt down a copy of this album, that seems like the best possible version to get.
