Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

"You want your kids to have character, confidence, and courage, then by God banish Xbox, Nintendo, and Game Boy and take them on an adventure. How? Where? When? The answers are all here. Someone finally distilled the fundamentals - both psychological and practical - of taking kids kayaking and climbing, surfing and skiing, scuba diving and kiteboarding. I wish I had this book 10 years ago."
- Mark Jenkins, columnist for Outside magazine and author of The Hard Way

More About the Author

Scott Graham's CANYON SACRIFICE: A NATIONAL PARK MYSTERY was released by Torrey House Press in June. C.J. Box, New York Times bestselling author of STONE COLD and SHOTS FIRED, calls SACRIFICE "a terrific debut novel." William Kent Kreuger, New York Times bestselling author of WINDIGO ISLAND, calls SACRIFICE "engrossing . . . a glorious portrait of one of the most compelling landscapes on earth."

CANYON SACRIFICE is the first book in the National Park Mystery Series, featuring archaeologist Chuck Bender. When his new stepdaughter is kidnapped during a visit to the Grand Canyon, Chuck faces up to his secret past and his unfamiliar family-man role as he confronts every parent's worst nightmare--that of a missing child. In Tony Hillerman fashion, SACRIFICE is a gripping page-turner that brings the rugged western landscape, the mysterious past of the ancient Anasazi Indians, and the modern Southwest's ongoing cultural fissures vividly to life.

MOUNTAIN RAMPAGE, Book Two in Graham's National Park Mystery Series, will be released in June 2015. RAMPAGE is set in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park, where archaeologist Chuck Bender finds himself and his young wife and stepdaughters in the crosshairs of an unknown killer when his brother-in-law is accused of murder in the brutal slaying of a summer resort worker.

Michael McGarrity, New York Times bestselling author of HARD COUNTRY and BACKLANDS, says RAMPAGE "delivers taut writing, solid plot twists, a cast of interesting characters, and an appealing protagonist both men and women will love. Get ready for a leave-you-breathless, high-country southwestern adventure."

Book Three in the National Park Mystery Series, YELLOWSTONE STANDOFF, will be released by Torrey House Press in 2016.

An avid outdoorsman and amateur archaeologist, Graham enjoys skiing, backpacking, mountaineering, river rafting, and whitewater kayaking with his wife, an emergency physician, and their two sons. Graham won the National Outdoor Book Award for EXTREME KIDS. He lives in Durango, Colorado.

Format: Paperback
I really got a lot out of this book. The best parts are less about the logistics of doing various activities with kids and more about child psychology with regard to getting them engaged in outdoor activities. I tried a number of their tips over the summer hiking season, and it made a big difference in how much both myself and my kids enjoyed out hikes.

The logistical part is also helpful, and is broken into different sections for different sports, which made it easy to find what I was looking for.

Format: Paperback
This is truly a wonderful book. It promotes an active and healthy lifestyle for kids to explore to the wonders of nature in all its forms. He reccomends wonderful activities that you can do with your children and addresses each one according to the child's age. I also coudn't get enough of the philosophy behind it. In this age right now children are experiencing Nature-Deficit Disorder. This is a very big epidemic that is affecting our children today. We need to unplug kids from the indoors (like tv, videogames, computers, etc.) and plug them outside!!! The benefits are endless! This book shows you how! And I love the author's sense of humor. Get this book. You will be making an active difference in your child's ( and yours) life. I hope he comes out with another similar book like this one!
