Book Description

April 13, 2010
Perhaps more so today than ever before, people are simultaneously searching for meaning in their lives and grasping for some sort of control over their futures. It should come as no surprise that many look to magick as a means of gaining this control. Exú is a powerful spirit who functions as Divine Messenger and Gatekeeper to the Spirit World. He sits at the Crossroads offering choices and possibilities to humankind. Exú represents balance: day and night, old age and youth, black and white, construction and destruction. He encompasses male sexuality, strength and fertility, and is privy to the mysteries of life and death. Exú is the lord of chaos and trickery, and the keeper of the life force. Nothing can be accomplished in the human world or the spirit world without the permission of Exú. He is the one that has the power to break tradition, to question the rules, to breach the norm, and to promote change. He embodies the essence of all of the Orishas and his power is immeasurable. Without Exú, none of the Orishas can manifest their power. Exú, Divine Trickster and Master Magician is one of Planet Voodoo's Applied Magick Handbook Series. It was written for the uninitiated and is meant to assist the reader in understanding the complex deity and related family of deities known as Exú.

5.0 out of 5 stars sarava exu, August 28, 2010

excellent book, great price. i would recommend this book to anyone interested in working with the spirits of the crossroads in the afro-diasporic traditions, especially to anyone who wants to get started in kimbanda/quimbanda, as the information contained draws heavily from the brazilian forms, as well as anyone interested in the congo-bantu religions in the new world. also, for practicioners of hoodoo, it sheds alot of light on "going down to the crossroads", as hoodoo and kimbanda both have their respective roots in the congolese powers.

1.0 out of 5 stars very bad copy & paste job, October 15, 2011

This review is from: Exu, Divine Trickster and Master Magician (Paperback)
I have no idea what book the other reviewers have read, but this is probably the worse Copy & Paste job in the history of publishing! The author has found bits and pieces of information in various places on the internet and books and has mixed everything together without showing any understanding of the matter! Vodou, Candomble, Umbanda, Kimbanda and Lukumi are all mixed together with a bit of traditional Nigerian Ifa religion scattered around the book. Names and attributes of the various spirits she mentions are wrong, songs are translated badly and the whole book is a cheap rip-off! The only bits of information that seam to come from the author are misleading and misguided. Particularly the information from Candomble and Kimbanda is totally wrong! Looking at the information she has in this book, I doubt this woman has ever spoken to either a Candomble priest or anyone initiated in Umbanda or Kimbanda. Even 1 star is too much for this book!

While this book is small, it is jam packed with a ton of info. It gets straight to the point, with no BSing. I've personally not seen so much info on Exú in one area so far.
As with her other books, this one will not disappoint.
