Steve & Eydie, what a Duo for the ages!,
By A Customer
This review is from: We Got Us/Eydie & Steve Sing the Golden Hits [ORIGINAL RECORDINGS REMASTERED] (Audio CD)
This is a double CD on one disc with two great albums by a very talented couple! You won't hear much of this on the radio, so if you want to step back to the easy listening music of the 50s and 60s, just order this one! It will make your day!

Steve & Eydie were singing Gershwin, Porter, and tin pan alley in the 50's while the rest of the world was listening to tacky kiddie pop artists like Elvis and Johnny Ray. Steve and eydie were keeping the popular American songbook alive along with Tony Bennett, Keely Smith, Carmen McRae and a few others. Though they are not as jazz oriented as Jackie & Roy(Jackie Cain & Roy Kral), on these two sets(originally Dot lp's) steve & Eydie are at their most jazz oriented. They swing through standards and lesser known gems. Both sets were arranged by Don Costa, who provides swinging and jazzy big band arrangements who also arranged Frank Sinatra's classic "Sinatra & Strings" for Reprise. This is one of their better cd re-issues even if it is a bootleg and it is recommended to both 50's pop vocal fans as well as jazz vocal collectors like myself. This is definatley one of the duos less "middle of the road" pop, and more jazz oriented sets, thanks to Costa's arrangements, and Gorme sound a little Sarah Vaughan/Keely Smith influenced, and Lawrance is as smooth sounding as ever. Recommended highly, especially to those who might think Steve and Eydie are not capable of singing jazz, here's the proof taht they are!!!

This cd started me and my sweetie on our journey into SteveandEydieville. We haven't taken this out of our player for many months now (except to slip in "Blame It on the Bossa Nova"). After seeing their awesome discographies on Steve and Eydie's website, it looks like we have a treasure trove ahead of us. The duets on the first half of this cd give you a taste of the beautiful, humorous chemistry between them (We're still on a high from seeing these two live in concert...sell your blood if you have to, people). The second half includes the gorgeous songs "I Hear a Rhapsody" by Steve (whom I'll take over Sinatra any day) and "And the Angels Sing" by Eydie (you can get religion from this one). Definitely a desert island disc.
