Book Description

August 1, 2006
Somewhere in the barren, arid wastes of the Arizona Canyon Country on the Navajo Reservation, a little boy is lost. His mother is desperate. And the only person who can help her is Kaine Cloudwalker, the man she has never been able to erase from her heart. The man who must find the son he never knew he had. Overcoming old wounds, and new pain, Laura and Kaine must journey together deep into the desert canyon mazes. As they trek through the perilous wastes, however, they find that physical hardship and personal estrangement are not their only problems. There are forces other than natural that are determined they will not find their child alive. But the Navajo gods have a plan. Before the days of the god, Changing Woman, are over, Laura and Kaine must accept Kaine's Navajo heritage, renew their love, and join forces as a true family. To save their son, and themselves, they must step into the eye of the dream.

From Booklist

Eight years ago Laura Kincaid left a loveless marriage with nowhere to turn. Pregnant and alone, she became a nurse while raising her little boy. Life is good again until the unthinkable happens. One minute her son is at a local Navajo powwow; the next he has disappeared into the unforgiving Arizona canyons. The only person who can help is the last man she ever thought she'd see again, Kaine Cloudwalker--the husband she left, who doesn't even know that he fathered a child. With supernatural forces acting as both ally and enemy, the pair must battle the power of nature and the ghosts of the past to save their son. Sinclair pens a heartwarming, inspirational story of forgiveness, acquired wisdom, and the importance of embracing one's heritage. The Navajo spirit is beautifully rendered here, shining brightest in Laura and Kaine's reawakening love. For readers looking for paranormals without the bloodshed of action romance, this is a must-read. Nina Davis

More About the Author

I'm southern by adoption. I was born and raised in Upstate NY, but when the cold weather, snow and ice became more than either my hubby or I wanted to endure yearly, we migrated to Florida. We now live not far from one of the most fascinating cities in the US -- our adopted hometown of St. Augustine, the oldest city in the US. When my creative writing juices dry up, a trip to the the Ancient City section of St. Augustine never fails to get them flowing again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eye of the Dream, January 5, 2007
This review is from: Eye of the Dream (Mass Market Paperback)
Laura Kincaid is desperate. Her eight year old son Peter is missing and after three days the police are calling off their search for the boy. Her only hope is to contact Kain Cloudwalker. Kain is Laura's estranged husband and Peter's father although he has no idea that he has a son.

Kain tries hard to tamp down his hurt and anger when he sees Laura and she is surprised at how much she's still attracted to Kain. Neither of them will show their true feelings, but Kain does agree to help Laura find her son, which Laura is ecstatic about.

As they work together to try and find Peter, Kain and Laura each receive messages, either through dreams or from the many Navajo locals that they encounter. Their faith in each other and in themselves will be the strength that will sustain them through the dangerous journey ahead.

The Eye Of The Dream is about a love that is lost but then found again. The storyline seemed to be a little far fetched for me though. The villain's identity was surprising but the reasoning behind it fell short for me. I did however really like Kain and Laura. They are wonderful, strong characters and their love story is heartwarming. The Eye Of The Dream captivated me with the first few chapters but unfortunately, it failed to hold my interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful paranormal romance, July 6, 2008

EYE OF THE DREAM is one of my favorites by Elizabeth Sinclair, and I've read all of hers. Think Tony Hillerman meets Nora Roberts. The tightly crafted story is rich in Navajo culture and setting.
