From School Library Journal
Grade 4-6-An imaginative and informative romp through the topsy-turvy world of visual illusions where all is not as it seems. While a follow-up to DiSpezio's popular Optical Illusion Magic (Sterling, 1999), this adventure into the world of perception and color can stand alone. Double-page spreads feature precise, oversized drawings in bright, bold colors illustrating the clear, but conversational explanations of how both the eyes and brain are tricked. The volume also includes a number of easy-to-do projects using everyday materials. A book with a fresh perspective, lots of scientific information, and hours of fun.

Gr. 3-6. Science expert DiSpezio follows
Optical Illusion Magic (2000) with more fun and interesting observations about the tricks our minds and eyes play on us. He begins this text with a cleverly colorful pop (pun intended) quiz recapping the illusions (mostly concerning lines and distance) he dealt with in the last book. Then he delves into illusions concerning print media, lines, geometric patterns and architecture, 3-D photography, shading, light, and the color spectrum. In addition to examples of the illusions and succinct explanations about why they work, he also includes instructions for several projects--among them, a flip book and a zootrope. Whether used independently or in the classroom this lively book will entertain and educate.
