I took Eye of the Storm on vacation with me along with 15 other books; I chose to read Eye of the Storm first as it caught my "eye" with its great cover, and I was not disappointed. Once I started reading this tale of mystery and suspense--murder and mahem--set in southwestern Florida along the Gulf Coast, I did not put it down until I read the last words. This first novel by James Forrest is definitely a winner, and I look forward to a sequel--there must be one?? And until then, I plan to read the novel again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye of the Storm, August 12, 2007
This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Paperback)
This is a quick paced, thrilling, action packed book. It's a great read for traveling through airports or sitting home recovering from surgery-ouch.
James A. Forrest's "Eye of the Storm" is one novel that any reader could enjoy and appreciate. However, native Floridians--and even fishing enthusiasts--could glean even more out of this perfect "made for TV movie" type novel. Someone--if not all--members of your family will enjoy this read.

4.0 out of 5 stars SharkLee's review (from forum), July 2, 2007
This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Paperback)

First, let me congratulate James on a job well done.

I found it to be full of action. (My kinda book!) Kept my attention. (That's hard to do at times.)

The hurricane reports at the beginning of each chapter were a little distracting at first, but started to add to the "realism", as the story unfolded.
You could tell the definate familiarity of the local area, with descriptions of landmarks, channels, and bridges. (I was born in "that area", btw )
James used accurate referrences to LEO tactics and weaponry (no surprises there, as he is ...experienced in that area.)

James' writing style flows well. I think the publishing/editing could have been better, as the layout was not the best and I saw more than a few typos and spelling errors... (He wanted the good AND the bad, in this review) Hence the reason for only 4 stars. But I'll chalk that up to a starter book with a starter publisher. The content was what mattered to me, though.

His references to the Florida Sportsman Forum and the Florida Sportsman Magazine were very cool. It actually added realistic qualities to the book.

A must read to anyone from Florida (and anyone moving here) and especially anyone who has been through a hurricane.

Heck......It had hot chics, guns, kicking butt and fishing techniques......
you could almost smell the salt water, hear the breeze in the mangroves..... and feel the tension in the air from the hurricane....

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye of the Storm, August 20, 2007
This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Paperback)
When I picked up Eye of the Storm, I had other things planned for the day. Suffice it to say those other things did not get done, as this is a page turner! Characters are identified and developed to the point that you feel like you know them...some of whom you like, some of whom you quickly and easily dislike, one of which I found myself hoping would not survive the potentially fatal situation in which he found himself, but Forrest throws you another curve in this fast paced, action filled story as the conflict situation comes to a head. Hard to believe this is his first book. I look forward to many, many more.

I want to start out by saying that this is an awesome book

I still go to school and its hard for me to start a book and finish it because all we read in class, but when i picked it up i could not put it down for the next seven hours until it was done. It just dragged me on to keep reading.

The way he described everything made it feel like i was right there next to Jack and Kat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bradenton-Sarasota-Palmetto mystery thriller, July 2, 2007

I really loved this book! Eye of the Storm author James A Forrest lures you in with his chapter one introduction to the recent events shaping the mindset of Jack Foster but sets the hook in chapter two, from the gruesome discovery in Terra Ceia Bay to the impending landfall of a Gulfcoast hurricane! From there the author just ratchets up the tension until you find yourself compelled to consume the pages in a race to find out what else can possibly happen? His fast-paced series of events and all-too-believable characters could come straight from a front page story, but this original plot set right here in the Bradenton-Sarasota-Palmetto area is all his own. The local references (both on and off the water) are a real treat! I thoroughly enjoyed this book the first time I read it and as I go back to make sure I didn't miss anything I have only one question for Mr Forrest.........what's next ????

5.0 out of 5 stars Breath of fresh air at hurricane force strength........, September 6, 2007
This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Paperback)
You could tell Forrest didnt do his homework.......he didnt have to. This is his life and his stomping ground. From his knowledge of guns, boats and fishing, women and wind this book was a direct hit. A must read for anyone who loves books set in Florida.
