Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The secretary-general of the United Nations from 1972 to 1982 here offers a thoughtful account of his personal role in world affairs in a period when the U.N.'s influence and image diminished considerably. In writing about crises, in Iran, Lebanon, Afghanistan and elsewhere, Waldheim describes the "quiet, intensive diplomacy" underlying peace-making efforts, and his frustrations over waning international cooperation. His memoir includes observations on disputes as well as heads of state, but it is his view of the U.N.'s shortcomings ("politicized" debates, rivalries between sovereign states) and how they have evolved that will linger in the minds of readers. An idealisthe was born in Austria in the wake of the First World War and came of age during the SecondWaldheim argues that only global solidarity will allow the U.N. to live up to its charter. 4.0 out of 5 stars No, Kurt Waldheim was no 'NAZI', but he did run the Internationalist Organization known as the UN..., September 20, 2006

This review is from: In the Eye of the Storm: A Memoir (Hardcover)
Waldheim grew up in Austria and his father
was very Anti-NAZI. Thus Kurt never envis-
ioned joining the NUTZI party. He and his
family were also NOT for the Anchloss! Kurt
was a regular german army Lt., stationed in
the Balkans during 1941-43 and there he never
came into contact v. any khazars (i.e. jews).
Later Waldheim became a big peacenik and joined
the Internationalist UN, and like Hess he was a
big Spacenik and advocated some Laroucheian type
stuff. But the silly charges brought v. he by the
world jewish Congress mouthpiece Elan Steinberg
was hooey! How could Steinberg and the WJC have
found 'documents under the UN', that proved Walh-
heim was a NUTZI, when Waldheim used to run that
organization, which I despise (!)? If there were
criminal traces of paperwork there wehn Waldheim
run the joint, he would have destroyed it! And
the WJC alledgedly found a piece of incriminating
paper AFTER Waldheim left...sorry, wrong answer, Elan!
