Book Description

Five years after his imprisonment for treason, Marine Corps Major Michael Stormwalker gets a chance to prove his innocence. The one person qualified to help him uncover the truth, however, has other plans. Convinced he murdered her fiance, Alexandra McLaren means to see that Stormwalker goes straight back to Leavenworth.

Sparks fly in the clash between a seemingly immovable object and an equally irresistable force. The sexual sizzle ignites Stormwalker's love for the auburn-haired beauty, who becomes as vital to his happiness as the restoration of his honor, the pride of his people and his career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging from beginning to end March 1, 2012

This was my first book by Renee Simmons. I absolutely loved it! I enjoy the romance novel when there is a Native American in it. I have read the historical romances but something about a contemporary romance with a Native American just makes me swoon. It's more believable to me when we are dealing with the present and not the past. There are not many out there. This was a awesome read with a little sensual spice thrown in. I loved the characters and could not put down the book until it was over and then I still couldn't put it down. The cover was great eye candy! It brought everything together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story, characters and writing February 21, 2012

I have never read this author before, but was intrigued by the plot line. I read it in one day (my norm when I like a book). The character development was great. You couldn't help but like the woman investigator and the supposed bad guy. I can't say much more without giving all away, but its a good read and I would definitely recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the read! February 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed reading this book. The story line was interesting and a bit different from the norm. I really liked the strong male and female characters. I especially liked that the female (Zan) didn't need rescuing. In fact she did some of the rescuing. I didn't give it 5 stars because I think some of the transitions in the book weren't as flowing as they could have been. Maybe I was just been dense but I found myself rereading a few things because I missed how they got to the next scene.

5.0 out of 5 stars CLOSE TO PERFECT May 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I READ A BOOK A DAY AND HAVE FOR YEARS. I RARELY GIVE 5 STARS, BUT THIS BOOK TRULY DESERVES IT. RENEE SIMMONS IS A SUBTLE WRITER WHO DOESN'T NEED UNREALISTIC SITUATIONS OR PEOPLE, OBVIOUS WRITING TECHNIQUES. SHE WRITES EFFORTLESSLY, QUIETLY AND SLOWLY THE BOOK COMES TO LIFE, THE MYSTERY, ROMANCE AND DEPTH OF CHARACTERS. SHE WALKS THE LINE BETWEEN WRITING SENTIMENTAL ROMANCE OR TOO GRITTY RS. HE'S A NATIVE AMERICAN--AND THAT IS UNDERSTATED ALSO, JUST A PART OF WHO HE IS, NOT A FOCUS OF THE BOOK. I BECAME SO INVOLVED IN THE BOOK, I DIDN'T REALIZE WHAT A GOOD BOOK IT WAS UNTIL A COUPLE DAYS AFTER I FINISHED IT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable romance book February 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book. It was the second book that I have read dealing with Native American & white romance. I like the insights we are given about the Native American way of life. Also, I enjoy romance novels mixed with a little mystery.

More About the Author

Renee Simons has played many different roles in her life: wife, working mother of two, amateur auto mechanic to the family VW Bug, vet to a mixed-breed german shephard named Billy (short for Wilhelm) and Fiver, a mostly bearded collie rescue mutt named after the hero rabbit in Watership Down; an unlicensed home decorator and often questionable cook (ask her marketing director son and medical examiner daughter about her spaghetti pie - ugh.) She enjoys painting, photography, swimming, music and travel. She began her first romance novel (forever unfinished) while in college. As a life-long writer who took those skills for granted, she recalls her earliest ambition to be a painter, but now concentrates on painting pictures with words. "The best of both worlds," she says. "Life is good."
