5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleasant surprise, September 21, 2010

This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Audio CD)
This album from The Storm, their second and their last, it is a very good album.
It continues the vocal harmonics of Rolie and Chalfante. I never heard about it back in the nineties, only from the first album, however this album is excellent, maybe it was not marketed correctly, or it came out during the period in which rock faded out in favor of alternative pop, nonetheless, if you like groups like Journey, Styx, Kansas and Triumph, you will love this CD!

4.0 out of 5 stars Polished, Journey-style AOR, July 16, 2011
This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Audio CD)
1995's Eye of the Storm was the second album from The Storm, an AOR group put together by former Journey members Greg Rolie and Kevin Chalfant alongside guitar hotshot Alex Ramos (later of Hardline). To no one's surprise, The Storm sounded a lot like Journey.

Like the band's self-titled debut, Eye of the Storm is a smooth, laid-back AOR album that's clearly based on the sound Journey made popular. Oh, there are some funkier, more rocking tunes (like "Livin' It Up"), but for the most part the songs on this album rely on sweet melodies and Kevin Chalfant's smooth, Steve Perry-like vocals. The whole album is really good, but "Don't Give Up" and "I Want to Be the One" are the album's best songs, and would have been huge radio hits if they were released just five years earlier. With Rolie's instantly recognizable backing vocals, "Love Isn't Easy" is another gem, and sounds like the hit single Journey forgot to record for Trial By Fire.

Given the rise of the alternative rock scene at the time, there was really no hope for this band or album. Eye of the Storm ended up being The Storm's final release. It's a shame, because they made some really good AOR albums, and there's definitely a market for that these days. If you're a fan of laid-back AOR along the lines of Valentine, Street Talk and of course Journey, both Eye of the Storm and Storm are well worth tracking down.

PS - Both of The Storm's albums could use a really good remastered reissue. Hello, Rock Candy?

5.0 out of 5 stars rockers lady, February 6, 2011
This review is from: Eye of the Storm (Audio CD)
I had the pleasure of meeting the band back in the 90's when their first CD The Storm was released after a concert in California. Their second and final CD (sad to have to write this is the last CD) continues where the first one left off. To bad it has to end....
