Best Book on Kemetic Religion!,

I've seen the review written by one who returned the book immediately upon seeing this book. Big mistake! This book may sport a simple velo-binding, but the art *is* beautiful (the cover of my copy is in full color, so I have no idea what the complainer spoke of) and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, this is hands-down the most comprehensive and well-researched introduction to the modern practice of ancient Egyptian religion I have yet to read. It is founded not only on extensive academic research, but also on very heartfelt experiences with the Neteru. This, above all other books, should be the one to start with if you find your self drawn to this ancient religion. The text is comprehensive and progressive, leading on through the basics and then onto more complex philosophical and practical elements. All you need to know to begin practicing ancient Egyptian (Kemetic) religion is right here, not to mention a killer bibliography. That alone should keep you in good, quality books for quite a while. If you let yourself get turned off so easily by the binding, you will be missing out on a great text. Kerry Wisner's second book, "Song of Hathor," is the next purchase you should make after this one.

I must add my review to the ones praising this book. I was hesitant to purchase "Eye of the Sun" because I was afraid, as someone who has been on a Kemetic path for a couple of years, that it would be repeating information I already knew for a rather high price. I'm so glad I go over this and bought the book! It is a complete, well researched, well-documented resource for anyone wishing to learn about or practice Kemeticism. Finally, book about ancient Egyptian religion that is written as a how-to for worshippers! I especially appreciated the section of foreign gods worshipped in Egypt and the chapters about Egyptian mythology and Ma'at, both very important features in Kemetic religion. Yes, it is self-published, and that means it is pricey and not so impressively bound. The information inside is well worth the price! My only suggestion would be to make the rituals inside encompass more netjeru, as the emphasis is heavily on Hathor. I do like Hathor, and feel more of a closeness to Her after reading this book, but rituals for other netjer would have been appreciated. This is just a small nitpick, though. I will definately look for more books in this series.

This is one of the those rare books that comes along filled with detailed information while being written in an easy to understand format. This books brings the concepts and rituals involved in Ancient Egyptian Religion within easy access of the layperson. Yet the documentation provided in the text shows that the author has done his homework in reseraching the matierial at hand. This is a must for anyone who is seriously interested in Ancient Egyptian religion and magic.
