This collection is a really fun and entertaining read. Because the poems are written by many poets, there's lots of variety. Some are funny, like "Igor Picks a Pet", "Read at Your Own Risk" (about a poem that curses the reader), "My Date with Mummy", and many more. My daughter laughs out loud at these. Some have a big gross factor (lots of bugs and icky goblins and such). Then others are more sinister, like "Hixon House" (about a haunted house), and "Spooky" (a creepy mood poem). You can almost feel a chill wind blow! There are too many good poems to name. None of them seem over the top or inappropriate. Also, with 44 poems, it's a great length. I'm really enjoying the collection and it's the perfect thing to get us in the spirit of our favorite holiday, but the poems aren't specific to Halloween and it can be read any time of year. Oh, and the illustrations (there are black and white spot illustrations inside) are awesome! They compliment the poems perfectly. They have a sort of wood blockish feel.

Perfect Combination of Freaky and Fun,

I absolutely loved this collection of poetry. Perfect for any time of the year, especially for those who prefer a good scare. My kids read from it almost every other day and my 8 year practically has one of the poems memorized. I highly recommend it.

Eyeball in My Garden is devilishly delightful collection of poems written in numerous voices. Reminiscent of the book Papa! (Phillippe Corentin), monsters express their feelings as do unwitting humans. Many of the poems, written in meter, would be perfect for a creative Orff teacher who is looking for new material to put to music for upper elementary classes. The poems are rich with consonance, assonance and descriptive words that kids will love wrapping their brains around, just as I did! Note: wear eyeball glasses when reading aloud.

A great book for reluctant readers. It's a mixture of spooky and fun, wacky and wondrous! I liked it so much I am giving a second copy away to my school library.
