it actually is a pretty decent video microscope. you view on your TV. the trick is to get it focused on the item you want to look at. I spent a few hours total playing with it. The kids spent maybe 5 minutes...

Ideal toy for winter time. You can sit inside and zoom every thing to your big screen TV. Any thing like Ants, buttons, hair can be viewed in vivid detail. Love amazon for the super single digit pricing. Very easy to use, hook up the set to the TV and start using it. There are few cons, it doesnt work well in dark. You will need good light in the room to get all the details properly. You can use a torch or a book light to augment your room light to get good picture. I wish it had a SD card adapter to save the files, I can use my PC capture card to save the video out.If you find it again on Amazon at sale prices grab one. From the day it arrived in our house it has been a perennial favorite. Moment the kids the see a new thing in our house they want it to be zoomed and researched thoroughly. Cut paper, carpet, towel every thing... goes through this one first before being used for any other purpose. Loads and Loads of fun.

I bought this bionic eye at its full price $40 last year, that was after I almost paid $400 for a similar system at LA science museum. I think it well worth it if you plan to introduce some basic science knowledge to your kids at home.Having that said, as the other reviewer also noted, my 4 years old showed little interest. It's tricky to focus and hold the sensor steadily so that you have a meaningful image on the TV screen. They know have a second generation item which comes with its own LCD display. I bought that too, immediately, but it still sat in the box after about a year. I am still waiting for my child to develop interests and curiosity in exploring unknowns. At today's sale price of $5, it definitely worth every penny. I am going to buy a few to donate to daycares in the area.

We received both a traditional microscope and this Bionic Eye for Christmas, and we haven't even opened the microscope yet! I know that we will, but for now, the Bionic Eye is so much fun! The detail is so alarmingly clear that you can literally examine a skin mole using it! A hair on your arm looks like a thick piece of pipe! We looked close-up at a dollar bill, coins, food, little cars, etc.We got it for a really great price (single digit price, not sure if I'm allowed to say here how much or not?) and it was a great purchase. Highly recommend it!

I purchased this for a close friend's daughter and it turned out to be the only toy if you can call it that - that she continues to play with and learn things at her young age. Great for the parents too.

This is an older model of this toy. If you are thinking about buying this, make sure you check around and find the latest version. I am sure the newer models are better.Basically this little thing magnifies a small object under the lens on your TV. It uses one "Yellow" video cable. This versions camera needs a lot of light. It takes a lot of patience to get the focusing correct so you can see the all the cool little details. It was interesting looking at dollar bills, the carpet, and coins, but then you really run out of things to fit under the microscope. We spent about 30 minutes playing with it, thought it was really cool, but then we forgot about this toy until we needed to have a yard sale. The "coolness" factor quickly runs out. Kids under the age of 8 will probably not be able to master the focusing eye and will lose interest. So following the age guidelines for this toy.

This product well exceeded my expectations. I am building an exhibit for a local aquarium and will be using the "toy" to create a video microscope. I am pleased that this will absolutely meet my needs and I am considering purchasing more for other applications. I highly recommend this toy to anyone bit by the science bug.

I bought 2 of these for 11 year old boys. They actually work really well. The boys could see all the details of their skin and hair (really their scabs, but that is just boys!) It was easy to hook up to the tv, so I did not have to help. Great educational toy

Stuff looks pretty cool blown up on the TV but I liked the other version with the LCD screen better, which of course I gave away as a christmas gift. got this one as the price was good and wanted to have once when I played with the once I gave away.only thing i dont like is that it takes 5 AA batteries to use it. If you are using it near your tv why not have an AC adapter? |
