After playing with this toy at a friend's, (I am 37 and the toy belonged to a 6 yr. old) I decided to purchase it as a gift for our good friend's 5 yr. old. I think the adults at the party had just as much fun as the kids. I highly recommend it. It's so cool to see things magnified (clothes, carpet, dog hair).

A friend said his daughter (10) wanted a microscope and I suggested that he consider the Eyeclops instead. Then I realized that I hadn't reviewed it. [I mention this so you know that I really like the Eyeclops; enough to recommend it to friends]
=============== Last year my SIL bought this for the children and I have to say the whole family has used it and enjoyed it. My husband has used it to read tiny inscriptions on jewelry. I've used it in conjunction with the kids' science unit on crystals -- we looked at salt and sugar. And, of course, we've used it to look at untold numbers of warts, moles, freckles and scabs. To use it you just take it out of the box and plug it into the television. What you see is a magnified image on the television screen. This ability to share is something you can't do with most moderately priced microscopes. The picture is in color, although every once in awhile it will be in black and white. We haven't figured out why that happens but it's usually fixed by jiggling the connections. Magnification-wise there's not a great many options, but you can go up to about four hundred which is good enough for youngsters to learn more about the world around them. It's a cool edu-tainment toy ... and it's a heck of alot easier to look at scabs if you don't have to cut them off your body and put them on a slide :) Pam T~ mom and reviewer for Booksforkids-reviews

My 6 yr old son got this as a gift, and although I was skeptical at first, I have now eaten my words. It is a breeze to set up, and once you do, the view is great! My son looked at the carpet, and it was really clear and looked like a microscope. We also looked at his hair, my husbands hands, paper, chicken etc. We went crazy!
Anyone that even slightly enjoys science will love this toy.

Captures the attention of both adults and kids,

We purchased this toy for our then 5 year old son last Christmas. It was so simple to plug into the tv and then voila - let the fun begin. The magnification makes everyday objects so interesting to look at, and much easier then trying to use a mircroscope. With two boys, it became a competition of who can find the grossest thing to look at, skin, scabs, warts, moles, wrinkles. Whenever we bring it out Eyeclops draws the attention of everyone around and everyone wants a chance to use it. It is a good way to spark the curiousity and we've enjoyed this product. Occasionally it is hard to focus if it isn't sitting directly on/over the item you are trying to magnify, but that is only a minor setback, because the kids quickly move on to find something different to check out.

We ordered the EyeClops w/ extra maps for our son's 7th birthday. It was a great hit. We all got into investigating and following the clues. It takes a steady hand but even our 4 yr old loves to look too.

We first saw this toy at a friends house, when it kept 2 six year olds and 2 four year olds buy for 2 hours! It magnifies anything it can essentially touch, hair skin, we are going to have fun looking for more. Very cool and definately worth the $25 we found this for on Amazon.

My 6 year old daughter received this last year for Christmas. When we get it out, it's all kinds of fun. You'll hear many sound effects - cool, ewwww, stuff like that. We put it on the carpet, our skin, furniture, toys, blankets, spices, etc. It's amazing. It's almost like a microscope - that you can take anywhere (as long as the cord reaches). My daughter has gotten it out at family gatherings and everyone is always amazed - and interested... "try it on this, focus on that" And it's handle and durability makes it a better option for kids than a microscope. Lots of fun and great price!

This is one of those toys that I play with when my children are at school. The only thing that would make it better is if it were wireless! I bought this for my 7 year old daughter who loves it. Fantastic value, great learning toy.

Focus issues,

I love the idea of this toy. The main problem is that it is hard for my kids to work it. Sure, they can hold the eyeclops up to any object, but getting the item in focus was really a challenge for them. It took quite a bit of effort for us, the parents, to focus the images. As soon as it was clear enough to see the image, my kids wanted the eyeclps back to "see" something else and then the next item would need to be refocused. I hated taking the toy away from them to "fix" the focus problem, but my kids could not get a clear image for themselves. My kids quickly became bored with all of the time it took to focus the eyeclops and frustrated that they could not see things with it without our help. Needless to say, they have not played with it since.
