Book Description

Laina Strickland is exceedingly exasperated because her husband, Dan, influenced her to abandon her New York City career and jointly purchase a Victorian Cape May bed and breakfast. In the blink of an eye, Dan develops his job description into one related solely to playing golf with their guests, leaving Laina frazzled and overwhelmed with the responsibility of operating their business essentially alone.

From New York City to Cape May, New Jersey and extending to Las Vegas, Laina's story evolves into far greater challenges than this ultra-conservative woman of faith has ever imagined. Can Laina gracefully tap dance around the advances of her Las Vegas cousin's shameless, womanizing boss even when their lives are in danger?

Discovering that attempting to walk through life on the narrow road does not exempt us from being exposed to a variety of trying situations, Laina must quickly decide how to survive--both physically and spiritually. Will her marriage to Dan survive, or are they traveling on separate and distant roads?

Curl up with Eyelash for a touch of humor, a bit of mystery, and a sprinkling of inspiration. You will be guided through fascinating family relationships and beyond!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Beach Read July 2, 2010
Format:Paperback
Mary Anne Benedetto's delighful debut novel "EYELASH" is the ideal accompaniment to a leisurely afternoon at the beach. When empty-nesters Laina and Dan decide to trade their big city lifestyle for a quieter life in a charming seaside community, they have no idea what's in store. The daily challenges and annoyances of their new inkeeping business ultimately escalate into a dangerously suspenseful situation that tests the solidity of their marriage. Laced with mystery, humor, and intrigue this faith-affirming story of midlife transitions is both entertaining and inspiring. Can't wait for the sequel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eyelash July 31, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
When a dymamic Manhattan couple with successful careers decide to enjoy the simpler life--managing a bed and breakfast--it is not what they expected. Mary Anne Benedetto skillfully crafts a fascinating novel with surprises, mystery and subtle humor. Her touch is light but her insight is piercing as intrigues multiply from Cape May to Las Vegas. This is for any reader who enjoys tales of a challenging family drama. I was mesmerized to the final page!

This book held my interest and was very good. I would have liked a bit more after the resolution to see how Dan helped Laine more with the running of the inn.

This book was okay, I downloade on my Kindle Fire as a free book and I am glad that I didn't pay a couple of bucks for it because I would have been disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Insipid, predictable Christian fiction. SPOILER ALERT.
The first thing that bothered me was the 'assumption' that the biker couple, who weren't within the main character's life experience window (very small and narrow window, at that)... Read more

OK. Not a wow. A bit unrealistic. Not inclined to read again. Looking for a bit more zip. First book by this author that I have read.

1.0 out of 5 stars I hope this is a new author
It seems like the ending was rushed, as if the publisher said "the book has to be finished by tomorrow." The plot was implausible, and all the characters are very one dimensional. Read more

More About the Author

Mary Anne Benedetto was raised in Southern California, moved to the Albany, New York area in her late teens, and then south with her charming husband, Fred, to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina in 2007. Her first novel, Eyelash, was borne as she began writing while she sat on the beach with her girlfriends in Cape May, New Jersey during an annual July "Girls Only Week" in Cape May--a laughter filled vacation that they have enjoyed for almost two decades. Never Say Perfect is her second novel, and she has published 7 Easy Steps to Memoir Writing: Build a Priceless Legacy One Story at a Time! to help people easily capture their life stories and From Italy with Love & Limoncello, which is a travel memoir about four friends visiting Italy on an unguided tour.

As the owner of A Writer's Presence, LLC, she is a Certified Lifewriting Instructor, affiliated with The Soleil Lifestory Network. In addition to working on new writing projects, Mary Anne teaches workshops to help people write their life and family stories, capture the essence of their Christian spiritual paths, and learn about navigating the publishing highways. She thrives on speaking to community groups about the importance of preserving our stories to share with future generations, having been deeply touched by a trip to Hawaii where she toured Pearl Harbor and recalled that her father, Ralph Greene, had been stationed there in the Army on December 7, 1941. She knew virtually nothing about his experiences of that day--because she had never taken the time to ask. She is passionate about influencing others to write their own stories and capture the written life experiences of loved ones before it is no longer possible.

Mary Anne is a wife, mom, and grandmother of three, who loves the challenge of creating new writing workshops and projects because they will ultimately touch the lives of people whom she will never know.
