2.0 out of 5 stars Eyes Of An Angel: Soul Travel, Spirit Guides, Soul Mates, and the Reality of Love
I agree with other reviews. There are better books out there on the subject of NDEs and being on the other side in general. It does focus way too much on the Monroe Institute. There just isn't enough information to make it worth buying the book. If you want to read it, go to your local library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eyes of an Angel; crucial reading for anyone interested in experiencing the inner realities, December 11, 2005
This review is from: Eyes Of An Angel: Soul Travel, Spirit Guides, Soul Mates, And The Reality Of Love (Paperback)
Eyes of an Angel a remarkable book authored by an equally remarkable man, is a very accurate portrayal of its subtitle; Soul Travel, Spirit Guides, Soul Mates, And The Reality Of Love ". The author is Paul Elder who has previously variously been a television news reporter and the mayor of a Canadian city. Paul now works with the highly respected Skip Atwater of the famous and justifiably highly respected Monroe Institute, teaching Remote Viewing among other very important inner abilities.

Eyes of an Angel chronicles the experiences of a man and his own unique journey to inner enlightenment through two near death experiences, and how through these profound inner experiences and his close involvement with The Monroe Institute, becomes increasingly aware of the "greater inner realities", and which experiences changes his life forever.

There are many books available on the subject of Out of Body Experiences, including those from Hampton Roads who are also the publishers of several excellent books on exploring the inner realities, especially from authors who are, or have been associated with The Monroe Institute, but Eyes of an Angel includes one major and extremely important ingredient that most books on these important matters are lacking. That ingredient is Inspiration. In order to succeed at any of these inner abilities, and that certainly includes Astral Projection and Out of Body Experiences, a major factor is motivation. The subconscious Mind must accept your desire to experience these abilities to such an extent that they are brought into reality without the logical, ego driven, questioning conscious mind filtering these abilities out as "impractical". The conscious mind wants you to remain focussed on the physical world in order to fulfil its own ego oriented material desires, and will have nothing of this "inner reality stuff". You can practice these abilities forever, but unless your subconscious mind fully accepts your desire, it will not be brought into your experiential reality, and Out of Body exeriences will remain something that you just read about other people enjoying and gainning profound benefits from. This applies to everything without exception, and is accordingly the main reason why people experience negative things by impressing the thought on the subconscious mind.

As the owner and adminstrator of the largest Metaphysical and Out of Body Experience forums on the Internet, The Astral Pulse at astralpulse.com/forums, I have the privelege to meet and communicate with tens of thousands of people who are interested in and practice these profoundly important abilities, and in the course of this I have read many books, but I have to say that Eyes of an Angel is without doubt the most inspirational Out of Body Experience book I have ever had the privilege of reading, and I can most honestly say that I have read this particular book more than once which I very rarely usually do.

Eyes of an Angel is brilliantly written from start to finish, and really is a book that you cannot put down. This book is at once inspirational, motivational and compelling as well as being a complete reflection of the inner realities. You will not find any fantasy or esoteric, occult, mystical "mumbo jumbo" within the pages of this book, only the amazing life of a genuine, humble and intelligent man who tells you everything with humilty, sincerity and Unconditional love, for the benefit of the reader and not just for the sake of writing about these things.

If you are even remotely serious about gaining Out of Body Experiences, or vivid insights into what you might expect from such experiences, then this book is compulsory reading before you even start to engage in any formal Out of Body techniques. Even if you are already a seasoned "traveller", Eyes of an Angel will add to your inner experiences in no small measure.

If you are wondering what to treat yourself to this holiday season or indeed at anytime, because it is never too late to seek and experience the truth, then look. But don't just treat yourself to one copy, why not buy 10 copies and give them as seasonal gifts to your loved ones and others who are seeking more than just a narrow focus on this material, physical world.

I highly recommend "Eyes of an Angel", purchase it today!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating, March 31, 2006
This review is from: Eyes Of An Angel: Soul Travel, Spirit Guides, Soul Mates, And The Reality Of Love (Paperback)
The only thing I didn't like about this book was the fact that it made me envious -- envious of my inability to have experiences similar to those of the author. I'm referring primarily to Paul Elder's out-of-body experiences and concomitant conversations with spirit guides.

The author reports two near-death experiences - one at the age of 12, when he almost drowned, and another at 41, as a result of a heart attack, but these NDEs were not nearly as dynamic as his out-of-body experiences (OBEs), which he mastered at the Monroe Institute in Virginia. In one of his early OBEs, Elder found himself floating through the walls of his house and noticed a nail sticking out of a stud behind the drywall. While later doing some renovations, he cut into the wall and found the nail just as he had seen it in his etheric body. On another occasion, while at the Monroe Institute, he achieved separation and visited his home 3,000 miles away, observing his wife on her way to work. He took note of the clothes she was wearing and upon returning home confirmed that she did indeed wear those clothes that particular day. Experiences like this offered him evidence that he was not simply dreaming or hallucinating.

During one of his OBEs, he encountered his deceased mother. "A visible stream of mental energy began flowing from her to me, and I became immediately immersed in her reality," Elder writes. "I felt her emotions. I saw what she saw. I experienced what she experienced."

But the most interesting parts of the book were Elder's encounters with Meldor, one of his spirit guides. Meldor explained various aspects of the spirit world to him, including reincarnation, soul groups, soul mates, the Christ Consciousness, and "The All." It is all consistent with other teachings on these subjects, but I found the discussion of soul groups particularly interesting.

Elder comes across as a very sincere and credible person. He claims to dislike writing, but the book is very well written and hard to put down once you get into it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book for the Genre, October 4, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eyes Of An Angel: Soul Travel, Spirit Guides, Soul Mates, And The Reality Of Love (Paperback)
This book follows the genre of books written by Bruce Moen, Rosalind McKnight, Robert Monroe, Robert Newton, and others in the OBE and past life regression trade. While very well written and entertaining, I was disappointed that there really was nothing new in the book for anyone who has read the previously mentioned authors. Of course, if the sky is blue, the sky is going to appear blue for anyone who looks at it clearly. If this is your first introduction to the subjects of out of body (astral) travel, multiple dimensions, spirit guides, soul mates, and astral level sex (!), then it will be a "Wow!" experience for you. Yet if you've (like me) read a great deal already on such topics, it can be a little bit of a "HoHum" experience.

And while not the author's fault, I have a few complaints! Why are the spirit guides in such books always given names like Meldor (Paul's spirit guide). Why not Bill or Fred or Bubba? Why are so many spirits running around in other dimensions in robes? I live in Phoenix in shorts and a teeshirt, so I do not look forward to living in another dimension in some curtain (like Carol Burnett in her GONE WITH THE WIND SKIT) or celestial bath robe! If we are intrinsically energy, and in our natural state would appear as an orb of light, why all the melo-drama? If I ever evolve to be a spirit guide for someone, I will tell that person that my name is Peaches and I will appear in a flowered Muu Muu dress instead of all the stuffy stuff that seems to show up in such metaphysical tomes.

Frankly, one thing that troubles me a bit is the way the word "Spiritual" is thrown around. Is it spiritual simply to realize that we are more than our physical body? Is it spiritual to run around at night in your astral body checking out other people on planet earth or hanging out with the dead? To me, none of these out of body theatrics are related to the spiritual path. The spiritual path involves a growing conscious evolution of our ONENESS with God and all that is. You can achieve this while always remaining in your body and working the checkout counter at Walmart! So let's not confuse metaphysical meanderings and the true spiritual path, which leads us to kindness, caring, love, empathy, compassion, giving, and surrender to a higher force, e.g., channeling the loving force of the universe, using an advanced ascended master such as Jesus Christ as the guide.

Paul seems to come to an understanding of this himself by the end of the book.

I am only raising such issues as food for thought. Nonetheless, this is a good book. And although I was bored by Paul's graphic depictions of his astral sexual experiences and his past life rationalization for a huge crush he had for a woman he met at the Monroe Center, the book was fun to read. A "Wow" experience for me? No. But a nice way to spend an afternoon waiting in an airport for my flight to leave (me INSIDE my physical body INSIDE a metal air plane).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, May 25, 2005

This review is from: Eyes Of An Angel: Soul Travel, Spirit Guides, Soul Mates, And The Reality Of Love (Paperback)
Wow! This is a great book. From the moment I started reading I couldn't put it down. Eyes of an Angel is an incredible story of the transformation of consciousness from the mindset of a skeptic to that of a total believer in the afterlife and spiritual world. Written in a compelling, humorous, Mark Twain-ish style, this book reads like an adventure. And it has everything a good book should have: an engaging plot, a riveting story, and an entertaining cast of esoteric characters. The most amazing thing about it, though, is - it's a true story. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

This book is a great read for anyone interested in metaphysics. Paul Elder does a superb job documenting his true life experiences. It gives one hope and lifts the veil on our illusory existence here on Earth.

The book I read before this one was Rosalind McKnight's Soul Journeys which I loved. Imagine my surprise when I picked up Paul Elder's book, Eyes of an Angel, and found myself right back at The Monroe Institute for more Astral Travel! I feel that I learned a lot from this book and it really piqued my interest about Out of Body Experiences, etc. Paul Elder is very honest with his account and I was surprised when he kept admitting his skepticism. He literally had to be hit over the head with proof!!

I LOVED this book. When I was finished I wanted more! His out of body experiences made me purchase the Monroe Institute Gateway cd's to help with my own OBE's, among other things. He is totally honest in this book. I don't usually re-read books, but I definitely would read this one again. You won't regret purchasing this book.
